They help to put you on the right path..then it's up to you if you stray off that path. My job as a parent is to teach my kids the difference between what is right and what is wrong...to teach them respect, to support them spiritually and emotionally....and to love them. I try and steer them away from making the same mistakes as me....but I don't wrap them up in cotton wool!!!

We are influenced by everything we meet from birth onwards, mostly in the first few years, but also all through life. Because human beings have such vast potential, we are able to choose from many ways to be. Once we are grown up though, we will have resistances to many ways, because they are unfamiliar to us and outside our "comfort zone". These things are not set in concrete (though some people do seem to act that way and are VERY resistant to changing their opinions and the more harshly they've been treated as children the tighter they hang on to their beliefs, paradoxically!) and you can choose a very different way of "being", especially if you discover that the ways you were taught are harmful or unethical. What good parents do is give us a secure grounding to be confident in the world and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and information.

The Bible says teach a child the way to go ...etc. Yes parents mould us but after some stage in life, the child is nolonger a child and s/he makes his own path. It is hoped that if the child was well brought up or moulded, s/he will make good decisions on his own.

you have to make your own path. but on the foundation of your parental care.u r already molded by your parents to a certain extent. it is up to u to shape it in a way u like.if u give a proper shape & shine it will last till u die. otherwise some where along the way u will break up.

The parents don't always put us on a right path. some parent are criminals and not so good people and their guidance trough life sometimes is not so good, but certainly they have influence on kids either they want to be like them or they do not.

every individual already has a path ahead of him and our parents can only inspire us whether or not we take the path leading to do good things or doing the opposite.

A bity of both. As children, we learn via our parents and they basically shape us but other people influence us too and our teenage years get a big influence from many other people.
Pretty much everyone in our lives help to mould us, our parents mearly START the process.

Both
The scary bit is that point you suddenly realise you have picked up those phrases or habbits of your parents you really hated, and are doing them to your kids.
It is enough to make you go insane
