I love my contact lenses. Re: hygiene, forgive me, it is like using tampons. If you don't use them correctly, they can be dangerous. If you do use them correctly, they are perfectly safe. There are many ways to solve both problems, some are better suited to lazy people...but if you are willing to follow a couple rules, there are obvious advantages to the way that seems to have the most upkeep.
I have astigmatism and I am very very nearsighted. The best product for me is rigid gas permeables. They are not floppy, and they are smaller than soft lenses, about the size of a pea, they fit barely over my pupil. You insert them like other lenses, and pop them out by pulling the outer corner of your eye with your thumb (catch it in the palm of your hand).
Some definite disadvantages:
They are not the most comfortable. I have always been able to tell that they are in, it is the kind of distraction you might get from having a bandaid on your finger. Not painful, just there and you know it. When you first start wearing RGPs you have to work yourself up to a full day and they feel really weird but it does get better. You MUST have a pair of glasses to supplement your RGPs because you don't always feel like wearing them.
Related, Sensitivity: When you get something in your eye, dust, pollen, or worse, it feels a hundred times worse. When it happens to me, often times I have to take the lens out and clean it up, reinsert. This can be a real hassle, especially if you are on the go or outdoors. I am also more sensitive in bright sunlight. Downright unbearable on a sunny day in the snow. The upside is that I have a lot of cool sunglasses and while they are necessary, you can control the cost no matter what your budget, and they solve the light sensitivity problem just fine. Another sensitivity issue is that after a long day, my eyes will be dried out and tired, which compounds to actually make me sleepy because of the increased blinking.
Upfront costs: I don't know what other lenses cost, or if you can pay for disposables as you go, etc but RGPs typically cost about 300 US dollars a pair. This is not money I just have lying around.
You can't rub your eyes with them in: If it gets out of place, they are very hard to get back to where they belong. They can actually cut your eye if you do it wrong, and when they are stuck, they hurt like hell.
OK so all that sounds like a HORRIBLE experience! But I still wear them, why?
Because they make my vision absolutely crystal clear. Tight, crisp lines, no "rays" shooting out from light sources. Just perfect vision.
Also, in my experience, my prescription does NOT change as fast. My theory on this is because since the lens is a definite shape (not floppy), it makes the eye conform to IT, instead of the other way around...which by the way is how the lens corrects the astigmatism (misshaped eyeball). I think it probably disciplines the eye a little instead of letting my eye just do what it wants, kind of like a little workout. Maybe I am totally wrong on this. However, I can't deny that I only need contacts about once every 5 years instead of running for glasses every 18 months.
Another thing is that they can "tune up" the lenses you have sometimes. Add prescription to the same lenses you have been using instead of ordering new. This is a lower cost, kind of like putting new lenses in your old frames.
Cleaning is simple. They aren't disposable and you insert and remove them daily. But you can use tap water and a single solution, it is a detergent so rinse thoroughly. And unlike extended wear or other soft lenses you are forced to take them out everyday, which lends itself to the habit of cleaning them while you are at it. You simply won't use your RGPs incorrectly, such as leaving them in for days, or sleeping with them, or not cleaning them...because the consequences are too painful.
Last thing is they are very durable. I lost one on a camping trip one time, and was able to clean it up and keep wearing it. It fell in the DIRT! They don't contaminate as easily and you can often buy a replacement protection plan when you order them for in case you do break one (they can crack).

Contact lenses were introduced into the market to help those poor eyesights get better visions.Depending on how strict you are in your personal hygiene it's basically harmless unless of course, you break all the rules by doing exactly the opposite just to test and prove your point on how bad it can become.
Although out here in europe, there were incidents wherein regular users had red pluffy eyes, migraines, itchiness but that's all because the liquid sold in the market weren't good enough for those lenses and as side-effects the eyes suffers even more.Just make sure if you're using one that you regularly change them, good hygiene is very important and is a "must" and that you keep it safe from having those miniscule holes as irritants including bacteria might get through and cause blindness in the long run.If it worries you,see your opthal so he can recommend you a good optician.Spectacles is fashionable nowadays so if you're in desperate need for confident booster, you can always settle for one that's proven effective for decades.
Hope my inputs had been helpful.

In terms of the benefit they've given to many wearers of contact lenses over the years as well as the improvements that have been made to our experience of them. They are good.
This said however, it depends on your eyes. Not all eyes are appropriate for contact lens use. Also not all contact lens types are appropriate to use.
Go and see your optometrist / opthamologist etc and get tested. They can order sample pairs for you to try out for free so that way you literally get to try before you buy.

Good! I have used contacts for a few years, but I eventually grew tired of putting them on before I went out so I just returned to using glasses again.

In the morning your eyes are red??? do u sleep in with ur contacts on?? You should be removing your contact lens before going to bed in the night. Leaving them on, makes ur eyes red and dry! --> lot of pain.. if ur eyes rurn red if u wear contacts throughout the day, then there is a problem. You could use a lubricant recommended to be used for contact lens. It really helped me! Even after using lubricants, there is an issue, you stop using contacts and consult ur doc!!!

good, I once used it and I could see up to people instead of glasses. I always break my glasses. I like contact lenses because I can use them at night. The hard contacts can give you an edge in class.

I think it's good, it helps with your vision. I like to wear contacts better than glasses. I can see better and there is a lot more peripheral vision. what's bad is the taking care of them and also when there's dust in your eye with the contact in it

Don't think theres anything bad about them. Have you not used any before? I've been using them for about 10 years now, and I wouldn't be without them.
As long as you don't wear them too long, keep them clean and avoid falling asleep in them (can be a little uncomfortable!), then there great! Don't even know there in.

I have been using contact lenses for almost twenty years.
I have never had a problem......and I have astigmatism(Hope I spelled that right).........
I am not sure why people say it is bad to wear them......
As long as you take care of them....everything will be fine!!!
Personally I only wear them for sports....I prefer to wear my glasses otherwise.
I have a few friends that wear them all day...with no problems.
