The first thought in my mind is "How magnificent." The stars and stripes have waved over this country for over 200 years or so. "Old Glory" has been a symbol of freedom throughout the world. To this day, I still get a reflex action to salute the flag as I pass, the result of my time in service to this nation.
I also think of the many patriots who came before me, who would rather die for the national colors before they would see it disgraced by any one, any where. We honor our military fallen ones by draping the symbol of freedom on their caskets as they pass in repose. I think, I love this country! Thats what I think of when I see MY flag.

I was born in the USA, but moved to Canada with my family 41 years ago. I am still patriotic and I love the USA! When I see the American flag, it reminds me of being in elementary school and placing my hand over my heart every morning and reciting the pledge of allegiance along with all of my classmates, and this is a very dear memory to me. The sight of the American flag gives me feelings of pride, loyalty, and patriotism. I think the American flag is the most beautiful flag in the world! As someone else here answered, I also think of apple pie! I could use a piece of apple pie right about now! Ha!

Pride and thankfulness for all of the women and men who are serving in the military protecting us and allowing our flag to fly (since Sept. 11 a tear also - no joke).

Nothing as I pass the USA embassy daily on Dag Hammarskjölds Alle, Oh yes, I am thinking of the poor coffee they once provided me when I visit the embassy.
Dear David La Pierre, the coffee was like to have sex in a canoe, very close to water.

A country built on laws for the people who are citizens here. Many men have died for its principles. And many were happy to see that flag waving.

I think : God, how many Red Indians died to build this country, and how racist this country is, and actually it's typical, as father as son, blood and murders all the way down in the History, a history of violence and brutality, great country, nice colors though,

the e.e. cummings poem:
"next to of course god america i
love you land of the pilgrims' and so forth oh
say can you see by the dawn's early my
country 'tis of centuries come and go
and are no more what of it we should worry
in every language even deafanddumb
thy sons acclaim your glorious name by gorry
by jingo by gee by gosh by gum
why talk of beauty what could be more beaut-
iful than these heroic happy dead
who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter
they did not stop to think they died instead
then shall the voice of liberty be mute?"
He spoke. And drank rapidly a glass of water
