children love to collect objects and create. Enjoy a day out in any park, beach, river, mall or even the back yard, with an objects and photo day. Each person to have either a disposable camera or digital depending on age of children. ( if only one camera is available, or a reduction in cost is required, split the film into equal frames, so each member knows how many images are availbale to them). Even the youngest of children can understand and appreciate taking a photograph. Just remember that a photograph of your childs foot is not a waste of film. It is what they see. Each member can collect peices of paper, receipts, lolly wrappers, whatever is important to them on the day and allow you to create a family perspective on the outing. its amazing just what children photograph and the angles at which they photograph from. Making mixed media montages looks great on walls. Make a family day poster, incorporating everyones perspectives. This can be an on-going activity to chart your perspectives on life every 3 to 6 months or even just once a year. Enjoy, i hope this suggestion comes in handy.

Why not incorporate a few ideas to make a real fun day, start off by asking the kids what they want to do,(pity you didn@t tell us how old they were).Do the mystery trip, around your local area finishing up in the park, make paper boats to take with you, and pirate hats for you all to wear on the way, make a treasure map that the kids have to follow to get to the destination you may like to walk to the destination but give each one a task, like how many Brown front doors they see, how many silver cars, you get the idea, then you let them make the picnic,(forget about the healthy stuff for one day) it's a fun experience, if you have time they could perhaps bake before hand , when you get to your destination you can sail you boats then give them a bag to make a collection to bring home which could then go in a book which they could make from coloured computer paper and make it as decorative as possible and then they can look back at the fun day, and you can have a glass of wine or a brew when they go to bed. have a good day.

What about just finding a nice park and having a picnic? We do this and play games while we're there. I'm not talking playgrounds but an actual park like near a lake or something. Do you live anywhere near an orchard. Every fall we visit a nearby apple orchard a few times and the kids love it. They get to pick apples and I bake something with them. Do they like bugs? I've taken the kids on hikes where we've taken the bug net and bug jars with us to examine the bugs we find. Simply hiking and experiencing nature is a lot of fun with kids.

Well you could try something like a rock garden, or rock farm, they are really nice, they have different types of rocks, and a lot of little things you can buy that are made out of rocks. Try going to picnic at a park where they can have time to play, plan activities to do at a park. Go to a build a bear store, they're really fun, then you can take them somewhere to have lunch, like chuck e cheese.

Pack a picnic lunch and go to a park or stream, beach to fly kite, swimming pool to play Marco Polo, play tag outside, Hiking. What I find my son loves is really time with mom and dad no matter what it is. Use your imagination. Good Luck !!!

my boy is 2 1/2 and he loves trains.
A lot of kids around his age are train mad or plane mad or boat mad.
Why not take them somewhere like the steam railway meuseum or a park near an airport or down to the beach/Harbour with a nice picnic?
But depends on the age of your kids really.

I took my son for a tour of 3 different motorbike retailers (OK i had an alterier (sp) motive) but he loved the attention, the FREE drinks and biscuits and he got to sit on some very nice bikes and have them start and rev them up. He loved it.

My sister did a treasure hunt with her kids. She went out on her own to make the clues and then took the kids out and put little gifts at the end of it for them. They loved it and now bug her to do it again.

Try some local hiking trails if your kids are old enough. An outdoor activity that involves exercise is always healthy.
