-How long: several years. There are usually plenty of field mice, lizards & bugs to eat in those open land spaces and vacant lots.
-Definitely check with the previous owners, that is most likely the case.
-I don't know your area, but medium size birds of prey, including owls eat cats. Also coyote prey on them. I've known cats that lived many years under those conditions.
-On the bright side, kitty's tend to adopt other families. A hint would have been that you saw less and less of your kitty as the days went on. Good thing you are checking with the neighbors. Of course there is the slight chance that someone claimed your cat as their own, which means that your kitty is loved by someone who is breaking your heart.
-Overall the prospects are bright. But just in case check with your local pound. Also ask if they have a list of pets-found-dead. My cat was picked up off of the road before I left the house for work in the morning. After many days of searching, the list was an unpleasant relief (so sad, they didn't tell me right away).

I think you have a kitty that has decided (be it by her own devices or not) to return to the wild, feral life!
Cats absolutely can live in the outdoors at 3-months. We had cats that bred all the time where I used to live and they did juuuuust fine. The kittens pretty much were on their own after a couple months because their mothers were feral cats.
The only thing I would wonder is if your kitten can hunt. Most likely it will be able to bring down insects - thus be able to get its protein - but chances are, she's been hanging around garbage cans too.
After five days, I think she's probably going to stay missing. Your best chance for getting her back is to put out a dish of food and wait. My cat got out and I thought he was gone for good (we live not only near busy streets, but where it's not unusual for coyotes to take a pet for a snack). We left our garage open a crack and a dish of food in there. The next morning (which happened to be my son's birthday), we heard yowling. He was so freaked out by the outside, he STILL hasn't wandered back out.
Good luck on finding your kitten. I wouldn't worry about her survival - just worry about getting her home. I'm sure if cats could talk, she'd be cursing herself for walking out on a nice warm bed and square meals!

Kittens can live for a long time on their own, as long as it's not too cold outside. When cats are scared, they usually hide, and won't come out when called. You will need to comb the local area near your house, looking under anything that will hide a kitten, esp. small and dark places. Try leaving a live animal trap near your house with some smelly soft cat food as a trap. That might be the only way to catch her. You can usually rent them for a small fee at the local animal shelter. Have you tried looking for her at the shelter? Posting up signs? Ads in the classifieds? Chances are that she didn't go back to her original owners - I don't think cats think that way. She probably got out of the house, and is somewhere near the house but is too scared to move. Whenever my cats got out of the house, they would hide nearby, and I would have to physically pick them up and bring them back. They would never come back of their own accord.
Hope this helps!

How old are you? Only an adolescent would think of such a ridiculous idea. Legit: A domesticated young Lab would not last long in a forest. Dogs are much happier living among people. Know your history. It was wild dogs many years ago that approached humans and wanted to live near them. They were not "forced" into doing this. Dogs are not imprisoned, far from it. Most live the life of Riley and love it.

She could possibly be alive but i dont think she wopuld survive too long as there are all sorts of prediters out there that could prey on a young kitty. Do you think mabe she could of been found by someone and they have taken her home. I know someone that found a kitten needing food and drink and so they took the kitten in. put up lots of posters someone may of seen her. but really a kitten aged three months shouldnt be outside yet. I dont think it has gone back to where its come from.

3 months is plenty of time to mature. She'll be fine as long as she keeps away from the streets. She may even come back, they often will in search of food.
