My third keet is fine with a bright blue cere. I buy a really good Australian feed mix. They really won't eat any fruits I give them though they like greens. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the responses but the brown ceres I'm referring to are kind of crusty and dry looking, The one female used to have a smooth creamy colored cere--now it has kind of a crusty, tree-bark look. Just doesn't seem right to me. But thanks for the answers!

A Brown cere only means you have 2 females who are of breeding age. The MALE will have a blue cere. A female will have a baby bluewhite cere or brown cere.

it does sound like you simply have two females, but we don't know the age of these birds.

Around the age of 6 months or even as early as 3 months the ceres on budgies start to change to their adult colours which is like what the others above me stated, deep blue for males and brown and crusty for females.

BUT if these birds are fully grown (12 months and older) and have had the deep blue ceres of males and are now changing to brown, then you need to see a vet. This is a sign of cancer!

You have two females and one male! As parakeets become sexually mature, the cere sometimes becomes crusty in the breeding female. Its nothing to worry about.

Hi there, a brown crusty treebark looking cere means a sexually mature female. when they are out of mating season it will usually return to a smooth beigy cover. It sounds like you have a boy and 2 girls. be really careful about that and i advise that you separate the 2 girls because girls tend to fight over one guy. On the contrary 2 boys rarely fight over one girl. I suggest that you separate one of the girls or maybe buy another boy? I hope i was of some help!

It just means that are both female and are in breeding season. Once the season is over, their ceres will go back to normal.

Yep hun.. you have two females. If it gets to dry that you are worried, you may want to put a bit of vitamin E oil on it..Just rub it in. But it's normal.
