Get this checked out immediately. It could be meningitis, which can be either bacterial or viral. The telltale symptom is a stiff neck. Check the link below. Get checked, you're better safe than sorry.

Yes, various diseases can cause sore muscles, but I would suggest it might be do to a job-related problem....work position....look at carpal tunnel syndrome being caused by the positioning of the hands and wrists over the computer keyboard. Even clothing and shoes can cause tortion on the body and cause muscle pain.

Fibromyalgia causes muscles aches and sore joints. Osteo- arthritis can cause stiff joints which cause the muscles to react.
Lyme's disease can also present those symptoms.

It's time for your co-worker to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis so she can be treated and get better.

If it's the muscle, heat will get the blood flowing faster and help the muscle relax. Taking motrin will alleviate the pain and allow you to relax so as not to make it worse by being tense. My friend and I have similar issues, although they are nerve based. She recently went to a chiropractor who really helped her. After one visit the pain was gone and she has given helpful tips for her situation to help avoid similar situations in the future.

Please see the webpages for more details on Tetanus.
Tetanus often begins with mild spasms in the jaw muscles (trismus), neck muscles, and facial muscles. Stiffness rapidly develops in the chest, back, abdominal muscles, and sometimes the laryngeal muscles (which then interferes with breathing). Muscular seizures (tetany) cause sudden, powerful, and painful contraction of muscle groups. These episodes can cause fractures and muscle tears.
If it is tetanus, call 911. Immediate hospitalisation is necessary and tetanus toxoid has to be administered.

I'd suggest she see a doctor about it. it could be stress-related, or illness related (like a cold), or it could be something really serious. her doctor can recommend treatment for it, no matter what the cause, because a stiff neck is no fun for anyone!
