Hinduism and also Judaism are NOT messianic proselytising faiths. A non Hindu or non Jew does not go to hell for not being one of the foregoing. In Judaism there is no Hell concept. (Christianity got it from the Greeks and Zoroastrians(= today's Parsis). Hindus know that all people are part of God (in degree), called Brahman-Atman. And God, in varying degrees is a part of every person. Therefor all persons are Hindus and ALL have God within them. There is no reason to convert a non-jew or a non-Hindu. We are not saving you from Hell and if there is a heaven (speculative in judaism), any right living person would merit entry whatever their faith.
Hinduism is at the same time a very primitive religion but also it is one of the most profoundly sohisticated religions on the planet. An intelligent person (scholar or philospher), who enjoys thinking and metaphysics has met his match in scholarly Hinduism. (Jnana Yoga.) (& for that matter Talmudic Judaism). At that level, Hinduism is a monotheistic religion ........(every other manifestation of a deity is a personification of the one God concept Brahman) which is, essentially, in the end, unknowable to humans. Personifications lesser Gods and Idols/icons are tolerated because most people need them. i.e. a graspable physical manifestation of a very abstract concept.
So Hinduism is generally tolerant, and accepting, and polymorphic. It has deiven many Christian Missionaries, in India, almost crazy. The Jesuits, in India, have adopted many local philosophy, and some rites into their liturgy. Which sometimes drives the Vatican crazy.
Hope that helps,
Namaste,
Dan.
There are millions of Hindus in North America. Many are white but hey practice quietly, unobtrusively and some of us almost never go to a Mandir. (Bhakti is not a big facet of my life, study is.)

Christians--shove their god in your face
JW-shove their magazine in your face
Mormons-shove their giant grinning Osmond teeth in your face

Hindus put a little dab of Saffron on your forhead.

Which reminds me of a story, the first time I went to India and let a holy man do his little blessing thing and give me a wrist band and a 3rd eye. I didn't know the currency conversions and had no idea how much you were to tip these guys so gave him 20 rupees which was like 75 cents or something. Turns out the going rate was 1 or 2. The next day all the tourists were complaining that the holy men were all holding out for 20 rupees.
Oops.

Because it does not matter to them. Better question, why is it so apalling to people when approached by christians?

Who is to say they don't anyway. A better answer is: Hindu's believe the truth is relative. Finding God is a journey and nothing is for certain. They obtain the knowledge that they recieve in their life and try to live by that. Yet nothing is necessarily fact to them. The truth is relative. A chair is not a chair, we merely call it a chair.

As a christian I say the truth is real. If this is not a chair, then what the hell am I sitting on.

Furthermore, as a christian (catholic) I impose my faith on people all the time. Sometimes I even speak.

Because only a minority of world religions proselytize. Unfortunately, the two largest religions believe in proselytizing and it makes it seem that all religions do.

I definitely have much more respect for those religious people who do not need to validate their religion by converting others to their faith.

there are only two ways to be a hindu from what i know:

-to be born a hindu
-to be married to a hindu and accept, believe and practice the religion because YOU want to

that is why there's slim chance that one of them is going to force their religion on you.

cuz hindus never force religion whether in ur country or anywhere else, hindu's r very liberal minded n every one is free, n hindu's do not have provision to convert to their religion like other religion have. hindu's respect their religion as well as all other religions.they believe god is 1 just his incarnations are many.

For the same reason most Buddhists don't bother converting...it's not necessary in their religion. I really wouldn't mind if Hindus or Buddhists knocked on my door though.

Force, so they beat you until you agree with them?

So what if people want to talk to you, you just say no thanks!

However, thinking you were forced is a disgrace to the ones who are being killed around the world!

here are some people who were forced
