The pain is different depending on where you get it. Plus, people have different threshholds of pain. It hurts more over a bone.
Most Painful Areas for a Woman : Ankle, Spine, Ribcage
Least Painful Areas for a Woman : Abdomen, Buttocks, Thigh, Shoulder

I have three tattoos and am hoping to eventually get more. I did not find them very painful at all. I mean, it hurt a bit but it was a good pain. It is really all relative because people perceive pain in different ways. So what someone finds painful another person may not. I enjoyed the experience of every single one of my tattoos.
It is said that the closer to the bone a tattoo is the more it will hurt. Fleshier areas are supposed to be less painful. Also, when the artist is outlining the design they drag the needle. This hurts worse than when they're filling it in. When they fill in the color the needle is bouncing up and down quickly and doesn't hurt the way it does when being dragged. These are things I've been told.
As for the person who said you cannot donate blood, this is not true. It varies depending on the blood donation agency. If you've gone to a shop that is approved by the board of health and a certain period of time has passed then you should have no problems donating blood.
We're military and I am not allowed to donate blood because I lived in Germany during a certain period of time. Does that mean I should have avoided living in Germany? I think not.
If you want a tattoo get one. Do your research. Make sure you go to a reputable shop. We have a guy here who does terrible, terrible work and smokes while he does it (we're in Japan). I cannot believe the people who still go to him.
I'm 31. I got my first tattoo when I was 19. I've gotten two more since and will get more in the future. I've never regretted it and I doubt you will either.

It's not the pain, it is the idea that you are stuck with the same image on your body for the rest of your life.
I've wondered if this is a way to test how much you want a design. Have someone draw it on you with a Pentel or other permanent pen. Wear it around until it fades away (a month or more). If you still want it then get the real thing.

Make sure you are getting something you want for life! I have my kids names wrapped around a rose for all three. They got to pick the color of there rose. The oldest got the biggest youngest got the smallest.

this is the best way to tell if the tattoo is going to hurt. Pinch the area that you plan on getting tattooed. if it hurts when you pinch it, it will most probably hurt some ( or a lot!) try pinching differant areas of your body to get an idea of what i mean, like the shoulder then say the wrist to notice the differance in sensativity

where you put it and how big it's going to be play a good part on the pain process. It is important that the symbolic nature of this craft is to connect you with something of meaning and memory that is to be treaured on you as you walk this earth so choose wisely and don't worry about pain if the memory and the meaning mean alot then you will make the sacrifice for it. That is the turth of it.

well its just a needle that moves very quickly along your skin. the pain factor depends on much you can handle pain. I got doves on both on my wrists on the inside and it didn't hurt that much. Well it kinda hurt when the needle went over the veins, but it wasn't a lot of pain. As for your question, tattoos aren't bad! they are just another form of expression.

Did you know people that tatoo themselves are not eligible as donors for blood transfusion anymore?? so you lose the opportunity to help somebody in an emergency. And could be your parents or your chidren..so beware!
Additionally, it is also risky for you, because you can acquire some infectious diseases, as hepatitis or HIV!

I have a butterfly on my ankle which is only small so it was more uncomfortable than painful...the bigger the tattoo the more pain...it is basically like getting a shot just continuous...but its a fast action. The outline isn't as bad as colour.
