I got like mugged like 3 weeks ago, and of course for obvious reasons, I dont want it to happen again (hit 3-4 times, knocked out, got back-pack stolen).....Im NOT NOT NOT gonna carry gun, or a knife anything like that....but I have seen these like key-chains type things...kubakons, brass Knuckely type things, to have when your walking to your car.(SELF deFence purely).....What if i had that one of those type things on my keys (I heard Brass Knuckles were illegal, concelled weapon)...and was walking to my car, get attacked, use IT on an attacker, and really hurt him, or even kill him....do i go to jail, or get fined, or get in trouble?!?!?! EVEn if I was just defending my self????

Im looking into some classes about, how to take an attacker down, but it seems like one of those would be good to have as well. ANyone know the law, in which you defend yourself with a weapon that isnt like legal, but you use it purely for Self defence purposes ???what happens to YOU???

It probably depends on your state or city laws. As for weapons of any kind, know that they can be taken away from you and used against you. If you get the spray and have to use it, make sure you are not downwind or you will render yourself helpless.

A good idea might be to take a self defense course. Lots of places have them and some aren't that expensive.

Good luck with whatever your decision is.

If you carried and used one of those key chain things, then it would be said that you were going equipped to fight and it was not self defense, because you were ready to fight. Self defense is the instinctive lashing out type of action... If you happened to be skilled in a martial art, then you may instinctively use this as a way of defending yourself. But you can't beat the socks off the other person, you are only allowed to use enough force to stave off the attack and no more.

I would look into a karate course. It's very good thing to learn.
It makes you feel confident about yourself and, I've learned, when you feel confident - you walk & act differently. Words can hurt more than physical "blows". Most "scum" will not approach. You really don't need to carry a weapon (dangerous) But I know how you must feel right now. I'm sorry for your incident.
Be careful of where you are & be sure you know where you're going. Don't look lost...
This is just my personal approach.
Good luck to you.

There was something called CS gas a while back that came in a cannister small enough to keep on a key chain. You did have to take a short training class to have permission to carry it. It was legal, rendered the person helpless, but was not lethal. You might want to check to see if they still make it.

Carry around an aluminum (black) flashlight (mag-lite).Find the size thats comfortable.
If you ever see cops carrying a flashlight, they carry it just below the head with their hand, on top of the light, like a baseball bat.
