Does anyone know? Please don't guess, unless you also argue for your guess. Thanks.

Thanks for your answer Undir.

You're probably right that there is no way to know the definitive answer to my question. Still, maybe someone knows some things that you and I don't...

I have definately noticed that there are a lot of people participating in Y Answers (U.S.) who didn't learn English from their parents, and frankly I'm impressed (especially when they write better than people who were educated in the U.S.). I have studied Spanish enough to appreciate how difficult it is to learn a second (or third!) language.

I am often disappointed with how little many people educated in the U.S. seem to value clear, grammatical English prose.

I don't think there is any way to know the answer to that question. It's not like Yahoo asks us to fill in this information when we sign up. But my guess is that it's a very high percentage, considering that quite a lot of users come from non-English speaking countries and many of those who come from English speaking countries have parents who speak another language at home and therefore probably learned English second, or maybe simultaneously with their parents' language.

So instead of giving you any number, I can just speak for myself and tell you that English is my third language.

I think it's about 30%. The rest of the people offering tortured language--about 40%--just are in a hurry, have lazy brains, or can't spell worth _()&%^$.
