This is not an issue for me as I'm Canadian and virtually everything I buy, except commodaties, are from elsewhere. The Camaro though is an American icon. Even though it may be built in one of the highest qualtiy plants in North America, would you, as an American still love this car if it's made outside of the USA? This is not for sure, but Canadian unions have been negotiating since spring for the work, and have given up generous retirement packages. What do you think?

True. The previous Camaro was built in St. Therese, Quebec. But their French (and so am I, partly) and the quality sucked. The plant in Oshawa is top notch. This car willl kill.

Speaking of the Nova/Toyota deal. That factory now makes the Pontiac Vibe (Freemont CA) which I drive. The Toyota version of the VIBE, the Matrix, is built in Canada. Both are top quality, but service differences are great. I had a disconnected speaker that took 3 visits to solve. The price of manufacturing in Canada is giving Toyota the advantage on these clones. Labour is cheaper here, although Canadian productivity in general is lower, per worker, than in the States. This has been changing though as our dollar gets stronger and we adapt.

On another note regarding famous American brands made outside of the US I came up with my question because my music speakers are from a very notable American company that sold out and had their factories moved to China (Acoustic Research, who invented the speaker in a box.) After moving the public voted with their feet.
Although I want better quality, the new merger with Nissan/Renault could solve this in a US facility. Freemont?

What most of you apparently don't understand is that the auto industry is worldwide. There aren't ANY auto manufacturers that are soley producing and/or selling vehicles in any one country.

Ford, for instance, ownes & operates Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo, Astin Martin, & Land Rover, in addition to to the obvious Lincoln & Mercury.
ALL of these makes share technology, & parts .
And they do it ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Many other manufacturer buy stuff from other auto companies.
Did you know that many GM vehicles use glass from Ford.?
Although the Mustang's final assembly plant is in Michigan, the transmission comes from France.

If you go to http://ford.com and click on 'Global Sites" you will see that FMC has vehicles all over the world & each country has many different styles & needs & requirements.

Many Japanese companies also employ Americans!
In fact if it weren't for Henry Ford, there would be no Toyota or Honda or GM or Chrysler, for that matter !

ALL auto manufacturers use & employ products & people from every corner of the earth !

I bought my first one in 1973, it was a 1967 RS. Since then I've owned a 1969, 1973, 1984, 1987, 1991, and a 1996. I've also owned 2 vettes that were sweet, but my favorite was the 1973 Camaro. It was Red with a 350 that someone had beefed up nicely, it would literally peel the rubber off the rear tires sitting still. The rear was jacked up to fit some large tires on Crager mags with bicycle thin tires on the front, Hurst floor shifter, ect.., custom made in the style of the day. I was really sad to see the production end a couple years ago, now I drive a mustang (hate it) Hope to see Canada revive it!

I figured something was wrong when they discontinued the Camaro & Firebird. When GM discontinued the Chevy Nova, they brought it back ( THE NAME ONLY ) on a Toyota Corolla with a Chevy emblem on it.You could buy parts for this 4 cyllinder " MUSCLE CAR " at a Toyota dealership less than you could buy them from a Chevy dealership. Our car manufacturers have sold us out to anyone who who will build their pruduct for a dollar less than we will. Please understand that I am not mad at you,but it does make me mad they want an American name on a product ,want Americans to buy it,but are to cheap to pay Americans to build it.
I'm sorry about the speach but in answer to your question, NO!!!

Well the Ford Mustang is made in Dearborn, Michigan. That's basically Southern Canada. I hope they put maple leafs on the headrests. It just better not suck as much as the Dodge Charger remake.

Yep, and ugly too. Remotely at best looks like a 1969 model but could have done better. Ford will eat their lunch as the Mustang is more like the 1969 and drives much better. MoPar will too as they bring out their old is new look too.
