Have a doctor do a sleep study especially if this person is overweight, a person that snores actually stops breathing at the time they snore, this is a very dangerous and critical symptom of other problems. This is called sleep apnea and can be life threatening if untreated.

Cause:
Snoring is caused by skin in the back of the throat that has been loosened over time. The flapping of this skin over the opening of the throat by heavy breath is what makes the snoring sound.
Solution:
Have them lay on their stomachs rather than backs.
Laying on the stomach causes the flap to hang into the mouth with gravity, pulling it away from the throat and thus preventing the snore.

Try Breathe Right nasal strips; wearing them nightly for a week improves your breathing and retrains your body to breathe through your nose instead of through your mouth.

There are little clips that you can buy that clip on the centre piece of the nose. Ask at a pharmacist.
My wife got some for me
