That's the way it should be, with slower traffic on the right. But whoa, in TX, they stay in the left at two miles per hour. So be glad if you don't live there!

the left lane of traffic is basically for emergence vehicles, ambulances, firetrucks, police and the right lanes are for the slower traffic and during peak times, how would you like to be driving 70 to 75 miles per hour almost bumper to bumper and someone has a blow out in front of you, chances are you just ate the rear of that car and the car behind you just ate yours and so on. chain reaction. you have to remember the braking distance is greater at a higher speed of travel and it may take up to 3 times the amount of distance to stop as opposed to a vehicle traveling at 50 miles per hour. besides why the hurry and risk injury or loss of life, because you could not wait another 5 minutes

DTB is right. It would be even worse if people in the fast lane stayed below the speed limit.

IN AUSTRALIA the slow lane is the left lane. And I understand why you are asking but I don't know the answer either! Maybe its because they're afraid of not being let in or they're just ignorant of road rules (keep left unless overtaking) or they're just plain inconsiderate.

I don't know but I wish they wouldn't!

Because that is the lane for slower traffic, and if everyone traveled in the fast (left) lane, traffic would be even worse.
