I am a muslim, and I believe the tree is a coincidence.

It is this sort of silly superstitious behavior that gives Islam, and indeed all religions, a bad name.

As an educated and intelligent person, have you considered that:
1. Maybe somebody carved the tree that way? Maybe a muslim was camping there some night, saw a tree bent towards Mecca, and carved a head and arms for it?
2. Trees, rocks, clouds, french fries, all of these are things that have random shapes. Every once in a while, these random shapes can resemble something. Have you seen the french fry that's shaped like president Abe Lincoln? Is that supposed to mean something? I will direct you to:

http://www.tcnj.edu/~hofmann/Humor/Misc/carving.htm
What is the meaning behind the trees and rocks in these photographs? Haven't you ever seen shapes in clouds? The creative mind of a human can take a random shape and say it looks like this or looks like that.
3. How do you know the tree is even real? They show a picture, bet that could just be something someone carved, or some other hoax. How do you know it even points towards Mecca? Perhaps they're just lying.
4. Suppose it isn't a hoax. Why should this be considered amazing? Have you not heard of the theory of probability? Out of billions of trees in the world, every crazy possibility can exist. But it just so happens that nobody gets excited about the other possibilities. I think it is quite likely that if you look at all the trees in the world, you will also find one that looks like an angel, that is pointing towards the White House. Does that prove that the White House is holy, and that the president of the United States is a holy man? Of course it doesn't, it means nothing, it's just a random tree.
I will direct you to this site, I strongly recommend that you read it:

Open your mind. As a muslim, you should not be seen as superstitious. You should not dismiss arguments to your beliefs as "words of the nonbelievers". Why does it matter if the person that you are discussing with is a believer or not? You should be able to give accurate scientific answers to whatever is argued. And I am afraid that regarding this tree, there is no scientific value at all. It can be regarded as a coincidence, and nothing more.

If you want to believe, and be a good believer, you should have a better reason for doing so than seeing an oddly-shaped tree in a forest.

I don't think a tree is needed to prove how a Muslim prays. I think the image is very cool and the fact the the tree faces Mecca is intriguing and perhaps a miracle. One always hears about Christian miracles. It's nice to think that this may be an Islamic one. I'm not sure what you mean by the tree proving the way a Muslim prays though. I would think it was the other way around. A Muslim praying proves that the tree faces Mecca. Either way, it's neat.

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
If you believe that by believing in anything other than the Bible is good for you then go ahead. Bur Revelation clearly warns you that whatever you add to the Bible, the plagues of God shall be added to your life. If I was you, I would repent and turn away from Islam, while you still can

Though I am not an expert in Islamic prayer postures, I believe that the tree man trumps the Virgin Mary picture burned into the toast that sold on eBay.

I know about that picture.

Don't get disheartened, have you forgot the verses in Qur'an, see In Yaasin:

"And We have made before them a barrier and a barrier behind them, then We have covered them over so that they do not see. And it is alike to them whether you warn them or warn them not: they will not believe. You can only warn him who follows the reminder and fears the Beneficent Allah in secret; so announce to him forgiveness and an honorable reward." (36:9-11)

They won't see, they won't realize, don't worry about them.

You can have as many Icons as you like. They prove nothing. Just the willingness of the person to believe. I would rather have my faith in humanity, for all that I have learned about religion is it's intolerance to other faiths.
