Sounds reasonable, a person murders someone, they get punished with death themselves.

Interesting comments so far. Let me add these.
In Numbers 1:51, 3:10, and 3:38 God gives instructions to murder strangers.
In Numbers 4:15 and 4:20, God gives instructions to murder people who look at or touch "holy things."
In Numbers 5:14 we see the "merciful" Jehovah giving instructions to abandon the handicapped in the middle of nowhere.
In Numbers 11:1 God burns people alive for complaining.
Numbers 15:32-36: God gives instructions to have a man stoned to death for gathering firewood on the Sabbath.
In Numbers 16:41-50, God murders several families (including children), then burns 250 men alive for offering incense.
In Numbers 31:1-54, God commands the destruction of whole race. All the men and boys are killed. Only virginal women and girls are spared. 32,000 are given to the Israelite men, presumably to be raped. 32 lucky ones were killed as an offering to Jehovah.
What a kind loving bloke this Jehovah character is! How can anyone be surprised that there is yet another reason for people to be murdered in his name.
Incidentally, there are about 50 instances in Numbers where God either commands murder, or does the foul deed Himself. Think about that...

God is the greatest mass murderer in history.
References: Genesis 6:11-17 and Genesis 7:11-24
Some examples:
GE 6:13 - And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
GE 6:17 - And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
Seems to me that God (for you believers) is annoyed with humanity other than his buddy Noah, and decides to kill (murder) every living thing on the face of the earth, except of course Noah and his family - got to have a few friends left.

Err I don't think revenge is a very good tenet on which to base governmental law. What about rehabilitation, prevention, and protection of society. The bible has a lot wiser verses than that one!

think about the death penalty? sure why not? i don't see the reasoning behind spending the tax payers money just to keep some mass murder alive, well fed, medically covered, and sheltered until his worry free life is over in his death bed...

All sin deserves spiritual death, which is eternal punishment and separtation from God. But, because of how Jesus paid for our sins with his death on the Cross and Resurection, we can be mad just. We need to turn from our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. When we do this all of our sins are forgiven.

I'm not a fan of the death penalty. Innocent people have been put to death before. All Christians must believe that -- or believe that Jesus was guilty.
