usually it fades out so your hair starts to look like your original colour

If you're using something that will lighten your hair, like bleach, the longer it's in the lighter your hair will be. But if you're just using hair color it wont get any lighter or any darker than it's seposed to no matter how long you leave it in. You could leave hair color in your hair for hours & it wont do anything, it stops processing after 45 minutes.

it depends what kind you're useing.
there are specific kinds you can buy that will lighten your hair. but they are more damaging.
the darkness of the color depends on the color of your hair before you dyed it.
but the longer you leave it in the closer it should be to the color that it should.
you shouldn't leave color in longer than what the directions say. it could result in burning your scalp, damaging your hair, and turning the wrong color. you should remember that hair color contains ammonia, or other basic chemicals that break down your hair so it will absorb the color. it's not healthy for your hair in the first place, much less if you leave it on longer than you should.
i'd suggest talking to your hair stylist. they like to talk you into coloring it themselves, but they may suggest a good at home coloring product.

depends if you are lightening or darkening your hair - more time will definitely make it lighter or darker but you also run the risk of your hair turning orange so leave dye on no longer than he time suggested in the directions

Yes, but it can stop once the chemicals have reached its process time. Then after that it starts to burn your scalp like a sun burn. You have to make sure you get the right developer cause if not your hair will only turn orange if your dark haired.

Yes, lighter colors like blonde will. If you dye your hair black though it will stay black. It will only fade(not look as rich) not get lighter.
