i walk my dog Barkley every night. he then goes through the whole block smelling and peeing on some of my neighbors grass, plants or flowers. when he poo poos i pick them up and clean after it. no one complains about my dog other than this one family who didnt like my dog on their yard. so is it really okay for me and my dog to keep doing what were doing? coz there might be a "silent" message you know...

Actually, in respect to "dog etiquette", you should respect their wishes... You want your neighbors to see your dog as a "good neighbor", too! It makes things so much easier.

(From the sounds of it, you let Barkley loose to run after you walk him? Never a great idea, for his own safety... )

We had a guy that kept walking his much larger dog through our yard, even though it upset our four dogs to no end... (Luckily, we have a fence now.) We had to finally confront him outside and explain to him that it wasn't right for him to bring his dog into our yard since it "belonged" to our dogs. He finally saw our point of view (when he realized that his dog was largely outnumbered) and chose to walk her on the sidewalk. It isn't right for us to have to pick up after our neighbors' dogs (which he wouldn't), and they shouldn't have to pick up after ours... I understand that you pick up after your dog, and that is commendable, but some people just don't see it that way... ;)

The other neighbors might not be outwardly complaining *yet*, but it really can be a pain to have someone else's dog in your yard... It is often seen as disrespectful to let your dog run rampant around the neighborhood.

All things considered, I would just avoid that yard in particular. I know there are a few yards in my town where I can't let my dogs set foot, and it's been that way for decades... We just avoid those yards and trot carefully along the rest. No big hassle, and everyone is happy!

Best of luck to you!

Dog people tend to not care about the occasional accident, so long as you always pick up after your dog. However, even if your neighbors are dog folk, it's definitely a good idea to avoid letting your dog use their yard for a toilet. Their children might like to roll around on the lawn, which you know isn't perfectly clean even after picking up your dog's poo. Also, dog's urine causes burns on the lawn. At home, you know where your dog usually goes, so you can water down that area and dilute the urine. Your neighbor might not be watching where your dog pees. Besides, it's just not very neighborly to let your dog use their lawn as a toilet!

Some urine can kill the grass. If no other people are complaing about it, then I would keep on with my business. just stay off the yard of the certain people that complain about it. It is good that you do pick it up though. good luck. we don't have those requirements where I'm from. I do try to be generous though. My dog goes to the property line where she will do her business. My neighbors don't mind, they have dogs as well.

if there is a leash law in your community and you are walking Barkley off-leash, this neighbor can call animal control and have them issue you a ticket for having him off-leash in their yard.

if he is on leash, then you just need to think about how mad you are making them. some people are pretty crazy. are they crazy enough to hurt your dog?

personally, I wouldn't take the chance. they are wrong to be so territorial, but I wouldn't risk my dogs' health or life to make a point.

if I had a really nice lawn and garden No I would not like it all the dog should be on a lead. I don't like it when other peoples dog poop on my lawn but if I saw you pick it up then I would think well at least he cleans up after his dog.

I think it's better to walk on leash that way you know where and what yards because sometimes people are not that forgiving and are mean in their paybacks and the only one who suffers is the animal and that is not fair.

You are responsible for what your dog does, and where he goes. If he goes on another neighbor's lawn, technically, you're trespassing. If he pees on that lawn, and causes any damage, whether real or imagined, you are legally responsible.
