go to Lowe's, and ask for the mis-match paint cans. they sell for $1, so pick a few and mix if you don't like exactly what they have. you can find all kinds of damaged or returned things in Lowe's and Home Depot that are super cheap and interesting when you use your imagination.
can't afford to buy tile? buy broken tiles (super cheap) and a dark grout (terra cotta or smoke) and do it that way. get a how-to book at the library...that's free.

Well.. really it is a matter of taste on your part.
Goodwill and many other thrift stores are a great way to find nice things for your space. If you are handy... pillows are always a nice addition and easy to make.. get creative to meet your style. I found new (cheap) ways of decorating over the years. I bought cardboard packing material.. (dirt cheap) and used it to decoupage the upper part of the walls.. turned out rather nice. Had a very warm feeling to it and was cheap and easy.
Yard Sales are also great for finding new things to add.
Check out some redecorating sites. TLC (The Learning Channel) website http://tlc.discovery.com/ has many ideas also .. Look for many sites like that. Better Homes and gardens is also great.
Good Luck

I'd try mixing very old with very new. For example, an old painting hanging on a wall over a very modern piece of furniture. Also, vibrant, stimulating colors liven up any living space. The contemporary look is currently in, but I'd go retro. Places like Pier One, and artsy little stores are great, but for young people who like to save, I'd recommend flea markets, antique shops, places like that. Minimalists prefer simple pieces which blend with their modern lifestyle. But, you probably want accent pieces to make you space more lively. Don't be afraid to show off some color. Best of luck.

A male friend of mine didn't want girl stuff on his walls so he went to an old 2nd hand music stores and found album covers that he lie and framed them. They actually looked prety cool. He was a big 70's music fan so he bought covers from that area.

i'm tight on money and for my ladies room I adorned her wall with images of her with her acquaintances. I merely used a stapler( from the dollar save) and stapled the images to the wall. you could try stapling some at the same time to make a small sq. above your mattress, or in a circle, or in a spiral may be relaxing! also, once you've image suite or any style of image keep on you computing gadget, you could substitute the colour of the image to black and white, etc. desire this facilitates! P.S. dollar save structure paper makes a delightful historic past, or "body" or swirly ingredient round your spiral etc.
