Most defiantly weight an balance and current draw are key in the decision of where the battery is placed. One of the more interesting that I've seen is the Fouga Magister jet trainer. The battery in that aircraft is very large and heavy and is placed just aft of the cockpit area. The plane is so well balanced that with one hand you can place downward pressure on the tail cone and raise the nose of the aircraft and pivot it 360 degrees, it came in very handy parking the aircraft or maneuvering it in close hangar space.

beechcraft places it behind the engine on the right hand side (facing forward from the pilot seat) sunk halfway into the firewall, yes I am a mechanic.........the reason for the dfferent locations is battery demands (current draw) and weight and balance concerns. the aircraft manufacturers have been working this one for a long time beacuse of weitght, amperage drop and a number of other issues

Primarily for weight and balance.
It also keeps the battery away from the engine heat , but the main reason is weight and balance

Batteries are heavy. They put them wherever they need the weight to balance the aircraft.
