get away if you can go on vacation other than that i would say there is nothing to do but remind yourself that he lived a good life because you took him in and he is very thankful for that. that is how i coped with my bird ana's death. she had a heart attack and died but i know that i raised her good and she knows that i tried my best to keep her alive with me. if i could, i would bring her back but she's safe up there with god.. hopefully that helps because it helped me..

I'm sorry you lost your parakeet. How old was he??? He sounded like a really sweet little bird. He is in heaven now though so he's not suffering anymore. which is the good part of this situation. no more suffering. I would be so sad too ;( I would cry for a week. find out why he was coughing up blood and if it is something that could be contagious to a new bird. and I hope you start feeling better after that I would go get 2 more that look just like him :) and try to train them as good as you trained him.

I know this is going to sound dumb. But I have had a parakeet since I was 9 years old.(not the same one...just several over the years) Every time, I lost one of my babies, I was so upset. My husband insisted that we go out and buy a new bird. The first time I did this, I knew it wasn't going to work. But, bringing a new one home does help. they need lots of attention. Feeding, cleaning the cage, and just talking to them. I found that within a few days I was feeling better. I didn't forget the parakeet I had just lost, but having another that took my attention from the loss helped. Before I knew it, I was just as attached to the new bird as I was the old one.
I am sorry for your loss. Good luck.

A small, informal memorial service might help, even if it sounds silly. Um, you could try some sort of sleep aid temporarily if you're having that much trouble. Eventually you'll be able to move on and maybe even enjoy the company of another parakeet.

well, i've never lost a pet but i can imagine a little of what you must be feeling. all i can say is im sorry. i bet he was a great little bird.
i wont say that time heals because for some people it doesnt.......but you should try to be strong for yourself, because you DO matter, even if right now all you think matters is fuzzy.
mild sleeping pills should work for you, just dont get addicted. they're not a cure, just there to help ya till you can do it yourself, you know? but just to be on the safe side, check with your doctor first.

I know how you feel, my parrot died a couple of weeks ago and I still cry when I see the empty space his cage used to be. Some people said to buy another bird but I don't feel He can be replaced. I quess it takes time to feel better

awww bless ya I'm sorry for your loss. I'd recommend getting another one. That always helps me. It's not so much replacing them..because your bird can never be replaced but rather giving yourself something else to focus on.
