this question is aimed mainly at a certain faction of people, I am and will always be an american......I'm trying to make a point.....

To call myself german american, and hide behind the fact that I am of german decent. should I get free stuff just because of what germany did in world war 2? should i speak german and not english, fly my german flag over the american flag, take german holidays off work, and do nothing but drink beer and eat sauerkraut all day? Or should I consider myself an american citizen, born and raised, and be proud of what I am and who I am? I welcome all snod remarks about my heritage.......

You can and should be proud of your heritage..
However, when your family migrated here they became Official American Citizens. I'm assuming the pt. you are making is about immigrants etc.. wanting to be considered amer. citizens with equality, but still segregating themselves by flying flags of native countries, and refusing to join American Society.
If so I completely agree. If you want to be American, Act the part! Can the previous flag, wave the one of the one you risked your life, and family obtaining.
There is no reason to make snod remarks about your heritage, there is a huge majoriy of german descendents in the US,I am.

I think you answered your own question in the next to the last sentence of your statement.. You are an American and apparently love your country. On the other hand, you do have some cultural history that you can also be proud of as well. Speaking more than English is good. Celebrating Oktoberfest is good too. You certainly don't need to call yourself a German-American.

Do you speak Dutch? You would not be the one to get that free stuff it would be the Jews that ones the Germans offended in the war,What are the German Holidays? If you want to take those Holidays off it will be okay.In America we eat and drink . We raise our flags we celebrate all cultures and Holidays and we are proud . We are most proud because we are all the immigrants to this land and we will share it til death we do part.

you should be what you feel the most ... My dad is american, but I was born in Peru ... I' been raised over there until i was 15 ... than I came here to the states to do what most people do here (work and college). I conciderate myself peruvian, but at the same time I love america. I sing both Athems as they were part of me, I lived in France for 2 years and everyone used to ask me where I was from ... I said "I was born in Peru, but I live in the USA now", you should love you culture the same as you should love the country that you live ... WWII doesn't have anything to do with this also ... that's past and history

You should not deny who ur ancestors are. By claiming u have German ancestry should in no way change the fact that you are born in America, speak American, and livie the American culture. These are part of ur identity, but they do not complete it.

Nevertheless, you should not be concerned with people who will judge u based on who ur ancestors are and what nationality u r now, but associate with people who will judge u based on ur actions and intentions. An asshole is an asshole regardless of his color, nationality, or ancestry.

Erm, Germans do not drink beer and eat sauerkraut all day. So they would know you are American if you did that, and not really German.

Not really sure what your question was but I'm rant for a sec..Be proud of who you are,if that's what you chose..Immigrants came to America to express themselves and find a better way for their families, and just because your here doesn't mean your homeland isn't in your heart..
