How would you feel??

my boyfriend noticed that my purse was in bad shape, so he went upstairs into a storage closet and found a purse that he bought his ex-wife. Then he brought it to me and told me about how it was a really nice purse that he bought his ex. I blew a fuse and threw the purse across the room. I know that what I did was an extreme reaction, but for god's sake, he knows how much I hate her. And I think thats just a dumb thing to have your ex's purse int he house and then try to re gift it to your girlfriend of 1.5 years. I am so pissed and I think he is ignorant for asking a question like that! I am so pissed you have no idea!! I feel like breaking something now!!

As far as many men are concerned, a piece of leather has no emotional connotations attached to it. Ignorant? Yes, he may be ignorant of why you reacted the way you did. Have you explained to him that the purse *does* have an emotional conection with his ex FOR YOU?

If all he sees is you freaking out, don't expect him to understand. I have a three-year-old grandson who throws himself on the floor, bangs his head and screams. 90% of the time, I have no idea what's bothering him. And unless and until he learns to explain things better, all I know is that he's upset. I cannot change my behavior to make him more comfortable, because *I* don't feel the discomfort!

He offered you a piece of leather - probably a perfectly good piece of leather - to replace one of yours that was shabby. If his buddy gave him an old tool belt that was still in good condition, he'd be quite pleased, no matter where it came from. He expected you to be pleased, and you freaked.

As long as you expect others to understand how you feel *without your telling them* you will continue to be upset by their "uncaring" behavior. As long as women expect their men to behave like their girlfriends: to understand the way a woman feels, to communicate the way a woman communicates, to respond the way a woman responds, they will continue to be unhappy with their men, and the whole time the men are thinking, "WTF did I do wrong NOW?"

I agree that it wasn't the thing to do, but he was thinking of you and your needs as well. I too would not have wanted it and would have found it offensive, but at the same time he was just trying to do something nice for you. And I'm sure to him, it's just a purse with no real meaning. But obviously he'd prefer you to have it over his ex any day.

You need to look at it in a different way. Even if he gave her something and then gave it to you - yeah not the brightest, but... Think of it like this, he was thinking of you at the time and it was quite a romantic gesture...gone bad. I do believe you over did it a little with your reaction, but you can repair it by telling him you are sorry but explain why you got so upset. Men don't always think like we do, they would have no problem using something of our ex's especially if it was really nice! If you love him talk it out and move on!!

omg, relax. I would love a new purse, as long as its not a cheap one. Who cares where it comes from. Atleast he told u it was suppose to be for his ex so he wasn't really "re-gifting" it.

what a jerk!!!!

A man who doesn't go shopping and find something special and meaningful for you IS NOT A KEEPER.

He should've gotten you a new purse, some roses, and big fuzzy stuffed bunny rabbit!

Wow, that's a very stupid thing to do.
Men tend to not think, often.
He most likely wasn't thinking about your hate for his ex, & that he just wanted to help you.
I'd be pissed too, believe me.

Just tell him how much it pissed you off & why he did that. He'll most likely tell you what i did.
If he tells you he thought it wouldn't matter, hand his *** to him. In that case it would be extremely disrespectful & cruel.

but hopefully he just wasn't honestly thinking things through.
