You can't be so simple minded. I guess if you wake up one day and say hey, by the way, what's China and Russia up to? I haven't heard anything so "I" guess they're not up to anything. Oh, it must be because they're religiously neutral, yeah, that sounds like something logical, ummmmm, makes sense. Let me go back to sleep! Well, the truth is Russia is probably second to none in arms sales and China has increased military spending by over 30% in the last five years! But its ok, cause they're doing it in a non-religious stance. Nothing like killing wholesale with no prejudice. Wake up! The influence they yield is so vast I couldn't even imagine to put it all down here. But lets just shoot some countries under their direct influence. Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, (have you heard of any of these places?) Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan......! Oh and by the way, all those countries, they are 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in natural oil holding, behind Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait and Russia! Hummmm, could that be classified as interest and influence for oil? No, it can't be.

No.

China has historically been a country very content with isolationism ... if you have any doubts, you can easily find documentation on this going back several thousand years. China is commonly referred to as "the sleeping giant" in political matters. While China has a massive population and military, it's economic base is still developing.

Russia is more complicated ... trying to re-emerge as a power in the global world following the dissolution of the U.S.S.R. While Russia has made some progress, it is struggling with the restructuring of political power.

The United States' reaction to the Chechneya problems is the exact opposite of its reaction to other regions of the globe ... we dismiss it, saying the events are unfortunate, and ask Russia to seak peaceful resolution.

But you seem have made your mind up already. Too bad, you could have learned something.

I must interject here briefly. Russia is not "anti-religious". While it is true that the Soviets were very against religion and persecuted many believers(of all faiths), that is no longer the way it is.
The Russian Federation has a nationally recognized Church- "The Russian Orthodox Church"- which claims 90% of Russians as members of Her flock.President Vladimir Putin is an Orthodox Christian, and often tries to work with the Church for the betterment of Russian society.

The Russians are Orthodox Christian (You're thinking of the old Soviet Union's ban on religion), and the fastest growing Faith in China is Christianity. If it seems like we are only going after countries with "religion" it is probably because they ALL have one. Those countries like Iraq and Afghanistan that are currently in the process of struggling for their freedom of religion are doing so because now they finally can. Who made that happen? I'm sure the Taliban and the Bathists see things from your point of view, however. You may have a harder time convincing the Israelies.

Ever heard of the Soviet Union(russia 16 years ago)? They were quite involved in the shennanigans going on, and have the same religious stance as Russia does now. It's all just a matter of political stance.
