Ephesians 6:17 and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God

If you listen with an open heart and mind it can get you started. You have to search for the truth., then follow your conscience, in your thinking, in your motivation for your actions and in effects you have on others.
Above all don't lie to yourself!
If you find you have done wrong admit it to yourself, try to correct it if possible, say: "I'm sorry!" if others are affected and resolve to do better in the future.
Jesus asks us to love our neighbour, even if he/she is our enemy! If you try THAT you have a good start.
Keep on listening! The message of compassion and forgiveness is there.

The way it was explained to me was: Your brain and heart are like one big glass of muddy water. But, if you continuously pour clean water into the glass, sooner or later, the water starts to clear up!! Hope that helps.
