I'm a junior in college this fall. I choose my major to be a teacher so i can shape childrens minds so they can have a great education and have a bright future. One of my professors told us last semester that we will face some parents that make our jobs difficult. My question is, what is your opinion about teachers today?

Funny I should come across this question today. I just so happen to have a situation with my 7 year old's new teacher. She YELLS at the kids ALOT apparently, and my daughter not being used to this sort of thing had an anxiety attack in the class room and freaked out because she didn't know what was happening to her body. She went to the nurse and just told her that she felt funny and stared at the wall until I picked her up. Now, the principal of the school just thinks she has some new school year jitters and she may be over reacting. In my experience with teachers, they treat your kids abusively and make them feel afraid and then put on a smile in front of you OH and then there are those that treat you as bad as they treat your child. But in places like Georgia, there is nothing you can do about it because no one wants to deal with it.

Well, I'm a teacher and I can tell you from experience that it depends on the district work live in. I work in a low income predominately Hispanic neighborhood. As far as teacher-parent relationships, it's a dream. The parents in this neighborhood really look up to teachers, and have very high respect for teachers. The only problem I have is apathetic parents, but that is the worst problem and generally not the case. But I have also heard that in upper income neighborhoods you do have parents that like to give teachers a hard time. I hope you get good answers from parents to your question. Good Luck. If you do decide to become a teacher, it is so rewarding.

Well I'm a student, and I don't really have an opinion on teachers in general. I love teachers that make things fun. Dance around a little, climb on your desk, sing, and make jokes every now and again...I love teachers like that!! The teacher makes me hate the class or love the class....make them love the class!
I don't know about teachers today, are they different? haha No, some are good some are bad, just have a sense of humor and whatnot.
Sorry if I have bad grammer.....hehe!

If its what you love then do it! Yea sure some parents will give you a hard time but alot more parents will be grateful for what your giving their child...I am thinking about becoming a HS Spanish teacher and I am determined to be one bc I love to teach people new things and such so my point is if you really want to do it why then DO IT! and every job will have its sucky parts.

Teacher's can be good and bad! I learn more with a fun teacher that I like than a boring teacher that is school, school, school! Not many parents stereotype them though! I am sure you'll be a great teacher!

I believe teachers are one of the foundations of a well informed and functional society. I believe we need more teachers who are willing and able to take parents to task about the joint effort required to educate and enlighten young minds.

Some teachers and great, some do not care at all.
I hope you are a teacher that REALLY CARES about their students. For example, don't give out junk food for 'open house' nights. Give them healthy food like grapes!

i think that teachers are one of the most important role madels that our children have theses days and I also feel that teachers are way to under paid. Our children see their teachers more than they see their parents so it is awsome when you find a really dedicated and good teacher.

I think it's a tough job. I also think that the new thing in our culture is to blame anyone but your child and yourself for problems relating to your child. Like I said, a tough job. If you really are getting into it because you really want to be the one who enlightens someone then it just might be worth it.
