He's just depressed sometimes. You know what he misses the most? You as an little girl who he used to take to the park and for icecream, and he was so much a part of your world. Now, you are getting independent and don't need him like you did as a little girl, so he is somewhat lost. You don't necessarily need to talk to him about it. DO something fun with him, so he feels assured that, even though you are older and independent, you are still daddy's little girl and no one can take his place. Spend real quality time with him. Go to a movie, go to a ball game, go to that icecream place again. Include him in your life. Let him say all those macho dad things like "He better treat you right or else," you know. He is being needy. He needs your attention. You lovew your dad, and he gave up so much of his time and life for you. Return the favor. He will live lots longer than ten years.

I'm sorry that you're going through this. You can't change your dad's attitude toward life but you can tell him how much he means to you. Tell him what you like most about having him as your dad, ask about how life was for him when he was your age and talk about your dreams with each other. Don't waste today by worrying about losing tommorw! Also, go to www.landmarkeducation.com and see if the landmark forum would be right for you. It turned my realtionship with my mom completely around. Good luck and thank you for giving me an opportunity to make a difference for you!

I know what you are going threw, my dad is 83 now. I spend as much time with him as I can, and do what ever I can with him. We talk about anything and everything. All you can do is just take it one day at a time, and enjoy him as much as you can now. That is what I am doing with mine.

Just tell him you want to talk to him and say all the things you want him to know, because you never know when either one of you could die. He will listen, because he loves you!
