OK school just started this week. I go to a public school in Texas.
We moved here a year ago. I am 15. They give us all these forms for our parents to sign and one is "Corporal Punishment Consent Form" I don't want my dad to sign it for obvious reasons. Last year he did because the option is ISS (In School Suspension) which is bad for my GPA. My teacher said if we don't return the form it means it's OK for them to paddle us. Last year I got paddled a few times and it's horrible. The first time my dad & Principal got in an argument and they agreed that only a woman could spank me from now on. So the assistant principal did the next two times and oh she was worse.! The last time she spanked me extra. I cried and everyone knew. I was so embarrassed!!!

So...what should I do? and why on earth are Texas schools allowed to do this? it would be illegal for my Dad to do that! and we cant afford private school is and I heard they do the same. Also Mom is not here.

I'm sorry that you're going to this ordeal. You need to have a straight forward forward conversation with your dad and tell him why you don't need to be spanked in order to maintain discipline. You're gonna have to convince him that you will always get your homework done in time, that you will behave in school etc. and KEEP those promises Also, ask yourself if there is anything you're doing to provoke the spanking (I'm not blaming you) and if there is stop it.

Tell you dad not to sign and if you mess up in school that you agree to other punishment such as no tv, grounded for a week etc. Maybe this way you can avoid the paddle. I wonder if this is legal but since they are having parents sign these forms the school is getting away with it.

I don't mean to sound rude but have you considered not getting into trouble, therefore avoiding the need for paddling or ISS? Being good and doing what you are supposed to in school would improve your GPA as well.

I checked with a lawyer friend in San Antonio. Corporal punishment is not appropriate in Texas, and is especially problematic when the pupil is 15. It can be classed as sexual assault even if the adult committing the assault is of the same sex as the victim. Your father should call the police and the local newspaper and complain long and loud.

You have to talk to your father about this. He needs to withdraw his consent for you to be beaten. If you have to have an ISS, then that's what you'll get. There is no excuse for him subjecting you to this barbarous practice.
