I took a Claritin at about 10:30 this morning. Can I take a Benadryl or 2 now? They are both antihistamines, but different kinds. Please don't just say yes or no, but how you know. Thanks.

I just had to say that pharmacists know more about medications than doctors do since that is what they deal with all day.

Yes, I have terrible allergies and I do all the time! Hasn't killed me yet lol. I also take them literally together at the same time. Just the doses given on the box 1 claritin and 2 benadryl.

I would wait til you've had the Claritin in you for at least 8 hours... I have done this, but you will probably fall asleep pretty fast. I don't know what else you do for your allergies, but we run humidifiers, sit in a steamed up bathroom, put a wet hot cloth across the eyes/nose area, drink hot tea, and sometimes use saline or decongestive nasal sprays.

I would say it wouldn't be a good idea, as they are both antihistamines, even if they are different kinds. Claritin's effects are supposed to last 24 hours, So I would at least wait until the morning to take a benadryl. If the claritin didn't stay working for you perhaps you should see a dr. as you might need an antibiotic.

Yes you can take the recommended dose of Benadryl, not more than that. The two drugs do not chemically interact with eachother. You WILL be even more tired than usual and may experience nausea. How do I know? I looked it up in the PDR.

Don't believe any of us knuckleheads out here. Skip the Benadryl for tonight and call your doctor in the morning-not a pharmacist, a doctor. She can let you know if there are any potential drug interactions. If you're feeling lucky, you might want to take a chance on calling a 24 hour Walgreens to see what the pharmacist thinks. I'm not a big fan of taking medical advice from a pharmacist, but it's a possibility for a better answer than you can get on Yahoo.

Call the pharmacy you got this from, or find an all night one to call. They can tell you.
