I am currently in school for accounting, but I have an opportunity to go to a police academy to become a cop in 6 months. The problem with the accounting is I'd have to go to school for another year. I really need to get out on my own. What should I do?

You need to ask yourself where your heart is. I don't necessarily mean to trust your feelings (they can be very misleading); I am referring to asking yourself which of the two careers you are genuinely more interested in. When you envision yourself out there working, which job do you think you would be happier doing? That is very important. If you think accounting is what you would enjoy more, then it will be worth it to go to school that extra year. You will be glad in the long run. But if you really think you'd be happier being a cop, then why waste your time in accounting school? You need to love your job, so just be honest with yourself and ask yourself, "Which job would make me happier?"

I say do what you WANT to do. Have you ever worked in the Accounting field? I have...for six WAY long years...it is boring. I have an MBA in Accounting and everything...it was the worse career choice I could have made. So now I am switching...after all that. You just have to do what you think is right for you...a little job experience on either side may help you make a decision. Maybe go and ride along with a police officer or find someone that is in Accounting and ask if you can help them out at work for a few days. Just see what you are getting into before you make a choice either way. Good luck!! : )

Yea, you need to take a long look at what it is that you want to wake up every morning for the next 30 or 40 years and go do! You will have a happy life if you enjoy your work, but you will be unhappy if you hate your job.

Yeah, do what you want to do without taking into account the fact that you may save yourself a mere six months of whatever.

I say go for what ever will make you happy. What's the rush to get out on your own? Trust me, having to be responsible really stinks sometimes.

I say to do what makes you most happy. Think about the future and if you want to be doing that when you get older.
