we are all damned before we accept Jesus... He does not count our good works, He covers our bad. We are not supposed to just sin and figure "well Ill just confess and be forgiven later" God knows the motives of out hearts. Continuing in sin with no remorse can begat damnation.

Doesn't work that way. Here is why. Contrary to the popular misconception, one does not get into heaven by being pretty good. We must be perfect, without sin. Only Jesus and children can meet that standard. Since we cannot get in on our own, Christ paid the price for us.
So works do not get us in because once you mess up, you cannot be perfect. But bad deeds do exclude us. Now if one person has committed x number of sins and another has committed twice as many sins, both receive complete forgiveness if they repent and are baptized.

The fact is, we are all sinners. Our works could theoretically get us into Heaven. The problems is, NO ONE could ever been 100% good. It's like trying to swim from California to Hawaii. No matter how good a swimmer you may be, it just isn't going to happen.

So in that respect, "works" do earn us Heaven or hell, as the case may be.

Since we can't be good enough to earn Heaven, Christ has stepped in and taken the punishment for us already. All we need to do is accept that and know that he paid the penalty for what we did.

It's called a "substitutionary sacrifice."

Hope this helps!

As I understand it....you are already "dead" spiritually, (because you sinned or if you were born a "sinner" I'm not sure) therefore you need to be "born-again" or "justified" by grace, through faith, and not through "good deeds"

Hope that helps,
