OK,first why did she become anemic? There has to be a reason her blood volume is so low.Is she bleeding out into her body like from the stomach.Or does she have an autoimmune disorder that prevents her body from producing red blood cells? Have they done all the blood work necessary for obvious problems? If so and they didn't come up with a definite conclusion on the underlying condition, what else have they done.Have they did an endoscopy to check for bleeding in the stomach?Have they done a colonoscopy to check for rectal bleeding and lower intestine bleeding?Have they done a bone marrow aspiration test to rule out leukemia or bacteria in the bone?
Red blood cells are produced with in the bone marrow and any illness or bacteria in the bone will cause the body not to produce red blood cells.
Have they given her vit.B12 shots or put her on iron supplements? B12 injections would be the best method of giving her iron.Have they put her on a diet high in iron?
The blood from organizations such as the Red Cross are thoroughly test for HIV and Hepatitis.
Next,if she doesn't want a blood transfusion b/c she is afraid she will catch something, approach her with possibly allowing family and real close friends to donate blood.

Your friend had 3 things: 1) Anemia (not enough red blood cells); 2) Hypertension (strange as anemic people tend not to have high blood pressure); 3) Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Well if anemia is severe she will need blood transfusion (if not bite and suck blood from your neck! he!he!) She needs to eat read meat and have frequent meals with carbohydrates. Do not smoke cigarettes or be on any illegal drugs as they can produce a worse condition!! Best wishes!

Anemia does not mean you don't have a lot of blood. Anemia means you are lacking red blood cells in your blood. Since I'm anemic, I take an iron supplement every morning. My doctor told me to eat more meat, but since I am a vegetarian, that wasn't happening.
All blood transfusions are screened for everything before given to people. So the chance of getting tainted blood is slim to none.
Best wishes to you and your friend. I'm sure she'll pull through.

It sounds like there are a number ofp roblems there. Blood transfusions are safer than most things. The chance of trobule with them is less than geting hit by lightning.
She should be back in touch with the doctor and try to get these problems wrestled to the ground.

i thougth anemia meant you were low in iron....maybe she should take iron supplements or start eating heaps of red meat and other food with iron in it. If a blood transfusion is what she needs to make her better i think she really should do it, it does sound scary but it could save her life and whats more important than that. good luck

People are transfused all of the time.
The risk for disease transmission is about 1/250000
Don't worry too much about her, she needs to find out what is causing her to have anemia.
She will feel much better having that extra blood on board.

first.... take it easy
its true, your friend needs blood transfusions...... but consider the fact that if she's afraid that she might get something from the blood, if she wont get the blood, she will be dead.......
get blood doners for her.... people who are trustable and people you know..... that also helps a lot
the labs have good ways of detection these kind of problems
its great of you that you support her a lot...
i wish i have friends like you..... seriously......
the best luck for her...i hope everything turns good for her

Obviously, your friend needs medical treatment. If your friend objects to the treatment proposed by her doctor, she should seek a second opinion. Asking here won't help you at all.
She has an illness. Treat it as such.

I'm so sorry about your situation but just know I am praying for you & it will out work out for the best. Assure your friend that they test & test & test the blood so it is HIGHLY unlikely that she will get something, maybe that will calm her down about it. But it is her choice so just advise her but leave it up to God it's in His hands now.
