She is totally without sin, but has recently taken up going to church, for reasons I cannot fathom. I am naturally worried about her associating with a bunch of sinners, and becoming contaminated by them. I'm an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church, and therefore sworn to uphold freedom of religion, so I can't tell her not to do it.

I am also an ordained minister of Universal Life Church. You just need to trust your wife. Let her know how you feel without condemnation. Remember it is her choice not yours.

Depending on what you view to be sin, no one is without it. I don't believe in the concept of sin, yet know that I have not always acted within what I consider to be moral parameters...we all make mistakes. Why don't you just ask her why she would suddenly want to start attending church? There is no conflict between discussing an issue and upholding religious freedom. I think that if you understood her reasons for wanting to go, you wouldn't be so worried...maybe she just wants to socialize. You also could suggest Universal Unitarians as a good church...they have similar values as the ULC.

Also, I really don't know what type of church would be filled with "a bunch of sinners." If that is your concern, you should also be concerned about her venturing from the house. That would, of course, be paranoia to the extreme.

Contaminated by sinners?? Wow I haven't heard anything that bigoted in a long time. Even on Yahoo answers!
First your wife is not totally without sin.. it says in the bible that if anyone says he is without sin he is a liar.
1 John 1:8-9
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
NIV

How could anyone contaminate a christian. We are sealed by the Holy Ghost unto the day of redemption.

How can you carry out the great commision without talking and ministering to the lost?

I don't think Jesus considered himself contaminated when he was hanging on the cross between a thief and a murderer.

I am so glad that she is going to church, maybe she will find truth. and that truth will set her free.

I am amazed that you call yourself and ordained minister. I hope you realize that you are held to a higher judgement by God.

James 3:1
3:1 Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
NIV

Why are you worried? She's doing what we as Christians are supposed to do. Did Christ become contaminated when he associated Himself with humanity? Jesus hung out with fishermen, tax collectors and prostitutes, but he saved them. He wasn't contaminated by them.

As an ordained minister YOU of all people should be going to church! YOU are supposed to be showing the light of Christ to a darkened world. YOU will be held responsible for the knowledge given to you. If you don't start spreading Gods word to sinners, YOU will be held accountable before God.

Don't worry that your wife may be seen talking with sinners...worry that you are NOT talking to them!

Isn't it Keyser Soze? But yeah this seems like a joke. She is not totally with out sin. And if you believe in Freedom of Religion why are you even asking anything to the effect of her attending church?

Depends on what kind of church it is... if it teaches the truth, it will only be good for her.

not to break it to you, but your susupicions will get in the way of her finding her way to her god, which as a minister of the ULC it is your obligation not to
