Windows XP: right-click on your time at the bottom right-hand portion of your screen. Click Adjust Date/Time. Go to the Internet Time tab. Type time.nist.gov in the box. Click Update Now. This will set your computer's time to the official U.S. time, and it will be "live" instead of "static."

(Of course you need to have the correct time zone set. To make sure this is right, follow the directions above but click "Time Zone" instead of "Internet Time.")

Good luck.
