Because it's become just another word, like "hello". It is the most overused word in our language I think (love, not hello) and few know it's true meaning or have felt it...if they had, they wouldn't toss it around so carelessly.
Don't believe anyone who claims to love you when they barely know you...don't believe anyone who says the love you, and then immediately tries to get you into bed...and don't believe anyone who tells you they love you, for the first time, right after you've had sex...
Girls misuse the word too...but to a lesser extent...we tend to be more serious about the emotional stuff than dudes...

Because they throw it around just to get into your pants. But for me I use when I really care about someone.
