it depends on the size of tile, tile design if any, and shape of apartment, it can get a little complicated. if you use 12" x 12" tile in a rectangular space with no interior walls and no special design, then it would be 585 + 10% to 15% of 585. ( which would approx. 644 to 650 tiles) because you need to plan for waste and edges. the best way is to bring your floorplan to a tile company and select the tile you like and have the pros figure out for you.

Linoleum (rubber) tile comes in 12" X 12" or 16" x 16" sizes.
if you get the 12 x 12 then you would need slightly less than 585 sq feet. the walls take up about 5 inches each so you have to subtract a bit.

If you're doing the floor throughout the apartment, you'd need a bit more than 585 square feet, so you could make mistakes, break tiles, and cut special shapes and sizes. I'd get 600 sq feet.

1 ft X 1 ft tiles would be tada 585 + 15% for trimimg mistakes. As the pros at Lowes! And you start tiling the center of the room. Not the edge like you would think. And the edges get the trimmed pieces so the bigget pieces go in the most visible area. Who's looking allong walls anyhow!

Looks like average tiles come in sizes between 12"x12" to 18"x18". So being that there are 12" in a foot, you would need 585 12x12 tiles or 390 for 18x18. You might want to get extra tiles for mistakes, corners, and edges.
