For the same reason anyone else does. Sugary goodness.
But not all cops eat donuts, just as you will find people of any group who don't fit a stereotype assigned to that group.
Like me. I'm a cop. I don't eat donuts or drink coffee. I just don't like them.

Maybe some donut shops offer free coffee & donuts to the police, great for security.

Because some donut shops open all night, and there are not many choices for night shift cops. If Starbucks open 24, I bet they rather have a frappuccino.

Enough with the stereotypes! I've honestly never seen any cops sitting outside Krispy Kreme! The closest thing I've seen is cops sitting outside convenience store.....quite possibly cuz they get robbed every 5 minutes!

Why does ANYBODY like doughnuts? Because they're DELICIOUS!!!! And doubly so when dunked in coffee!!
