I had an emergency tonsilectomy at 40 and it wasn't that bad. I was out of the hospital about 16 hours after surgery and back to work the following day. I use my voice all day at work, so only really worked about 5 hours a day for the next couple days, but was back to full speed in about 5 days.

A friend had hers out as an adult. The recovery was not bad, but it took her a couple of days longer than kids.

I had mine out at age 17 - not a girl and not yet a women. I recovered pretty quickly (in a couple of days) and found like SO much better because I was not constantly bed ridden with tonsillitis. Good luck.

I am 51 yrs old & had them out when I was 26 & I remember it vividly!! Recovery was neither good or bad, but it hurt to swallow, yawn, cough, talk, sneeze, you name it. It even hurt to cry! Your recovery starts with whispering and then your voice comes back a bit at a time. However, if you love to sing......that takes years to get back, unless you can afford professional voice therapy. My personal experience I would say was bad, especially since I valued my singing voice.

Had them out 8 years ago...I was 44. Outpatient. Had the surgery on Friday, was back to work on Monday. Should've waited for Tuesday. LOL

Sore throat first day, next day not so bad.

Don't get scared when you look at your throat and see white patches. That only means you're healing.

I was 21 when I had mine out. The older you get, the nastier it is. The same day I had my op, a 12 y/o girl had hers out. She was released that night. I was in for 2 days, and with home convalescense, it took a week.

my brother-n-law had his removed about 3 years ago and yes his recovery was bad. he was sick for about three weeks after and there are chances that you can die from it if you are not careful.
