Athiests the next step in evolution? Now that would be a step back.

Consider for a moment what an athiest is. An athiest is someone who denies the existance of God. How can they logically do so? Can one man or woman truely know all there is to know? No, they can't. They cannot even know a complete percentage point of all there is, so how can they say for certain that such a being as god does not exist. It is a logical fallacy. If they are growing in numbers, it means that more and more people are substituting logic for a blind faith. Agnostics at least admit that they don't know, and religious people have a basis for their beliefs.

As for religious people killing eachother off, it occurs no more than athiests killing eachother off. If you want to look at the difference between mass athiests and religious people, take the example of Russia. In communist russia, religion was surpressed and the nation grew weaker and weaker until it collapsed. Religion is now exploding there, and the country is gaining strength once again.

Then of course there is the issue of evolution itself, which I will not get into in this post. Suffice it to say, that if athiests are the 'next evolution' then evolution is going the wrong way.

"Mental evolution"? So what exactly would your mind be evolving into, a turnip, perhaps? Actually, your premises are not based on statistical evidence, just your perception. There are many theists in the scientific community, it is just that they have to remain silent about their beliefs in order to keep their jobs. Population growth does not indicate anything except the proclivity to promiscuity among atheists, and actually, I believe you will find a more rapid population growth among the Muslim community and third world countries. Yes, Muslims seem to be involved in most of the warfare at this time, but I don't see any massive Church involvement in any wars right now. And, your 4th premise is also faulty, first you do not identify which countries you assume are doing better or worse. N. Korea is almost pure atheists, how are they doing? There are more Christians in China then all of Europe, how is Europe doing? Christianity is still the main belief system in America, and yes we have our problems, but we are still the leader of the free world and have the most robust economy in the world.

The time has come when the inner and outer sciences can live in harmony. Everything can happen only at a particular time. Religion reached its ultimate peak in the Buddhas; now science is also coming to an ultimate peak.

And only when two things have grown is a meeting possible. A seed cannot meet a tree; the seed will have to become a tree. Only then, high in the clouds, can they whisper to each other, can they fall in love with each other, can they embrace each other. A seed cannot have a dialogue with a full-grown tree; it is impossible.

The seed will not know the language of the tree, the tree will not understand the language of the seed. Religion has been in a mature state for almost five thousand years. Science is still growing, coming to maturity. Hence I say this time is one of the most precious times.

You are fortunate to be alive today, because something immensely great is going to happen — and that is the meeting of science and religion, the meeting of West and East, the meet-ing of the extrovert and introvert mind.

The coming together of science and religion will create the new man who will be able to move easily to the outside or into the inside, who will be able to move easily into the extrovert world of science and into the introvert world of religion — just as you move outside your house into the garden and back into the house.

It is not a problem; you don't need any reconciliation. You need not make a great effort each time you come out of your house onto the lawn — you simply come out. Just as easily as you come out of your house and go in, a total man will be able to move into science and religion; the inner and outer will both be his.

Carl Gustav Jung has divided human beings into two: the extroverts and the introverts. His categorisation is relevant for the past but will be utterly useless for the future, because the future man will be both. In the past, we have always been categorising in this way, but the future human will be neither a man nor a woman.

I am not saying biologically — biologically the woman will be a woman, and the man will be a man — but spiritually the future man will have as many feminine qualities as the woman, and the woman will have as many masculine qualities as the man.

Spiritually they will never be labelled as man or woman any more. And that will be real liberation — not only liberation of women, but liberation of men, too: liberation from straitjackets, liberation from imprisoning categories, liberation from all labels.

Men and women will cease to be Hindu, Mohammedan or Christian; Indian, German or English; white or black. Not that colours will disappear — but these will become irrelevant, trivial, meaningless.

The new human will have a universal consciousness, and the foundation will be laid by the meeting of science and religion.

Well, I think that a better way to express that would be to say that rational people... those who are adept at reason, logic and rational thought... are the next step in evolution. I'm sure the fact that most of them just happen to be atheists and agnostics is nothing more than an odd coincidence.

I prophesies that it will be in the year 5300, there will be a great war between the the species of man and we will be scattered among the stars, we who seek truth, the truth of true enlightenment through science and the knowledge of the universe will find a planet where our knowledge and technological power will grow to hieghts never before seen by man. Those of religious faith will find a planet where they can wait for their Armageddon. 2000 years will pass and we will have forgotten about each other, when one day us of science find a burned out plant riddle with the damage of a great war. Our archaeologist will then come to find out that these were our bother that splint from us to find their own path through faith and religion. They found it all right they found it in death, and there tragedy would be used by the teacher of our world to teach our children of pain and destruction that false hope brings.

It does make sense in a way... only time will tell.

Atheists tend to be skeptics which allows them to avoid getting fooled and drawn in by con-artists and such. Perhaps we are mentally adapting to our dangerous mental environment. In order for it to be true evolution though there would have to be a genetic element... If they ever find that "god gene" then i guess you'll be right.

An excellent point. I have found that atheists are much more logical thinkers than their emotional theist counterparts. For this reason, I'd have say that atheists will likely outlast because they wont blindly rush into war over religion

It is true that greater education discourages religion by reducing the psychological need for superstitious explanations of the world. The question is, can our species let go of the supernatural elements of religion while retaining the spiritual gratification and community bonds it fosters?
