Depending how well she can get around is a concern before I answer. I will answer this by the way I think she feels and her activity. I think a nice music box that plays a special song (loud enough for her to hear) would be nice. Bring a Birthday cake with the numbers 8 and 0 on it, saying Happy Birthday ------then her name.. Also cater food to be brought to her home, enough for her and everyone who will attend. How special is that?
We never know if we will make it to our next Birthday or not so celebrate hers like none other.

Wish my Mother was still alive, I would give her a hug, and take her for a long drive, & get her a strawberry shake, she loved that, she lived to be 100 & 3 months old, she died May of 2001. She was a wonderful mother, you should all be so lucky. I miss her very much.

My mother is 81 and my husband & myself take her over meals (night meals) about 3 times per week. She hates fixing a night meal for just herself. Another suggestion, give her a beautiful card and tell her you will vacuum, dust, mop, sweep, clean toilets, etc once a month. My grandmother was 96 and her biggest thrill was having us come to visit every week - even if it was for 15 minutes and we'd usually take in an ice cream treat.

A friend told me today that she gave her father a gift for his 80th birthday...a course that they would take together of beginning water color painting. He is not doing well with the painting, says it is not his thing, but they see each other once a week and meet at B&N for coffee and book search before the painting class. They spend hours there together and closed the place last week.

take them to lunch or dinner and if they have the energy to a show. My 80 year old aunt loves to go for Chinese food - but that's really all she's up for.

A simple card and flowers thank her for doing a job well done. Thanking her for making you who you are and showing her that you are happy that you grew up they way you did.

I gave my mom a card one year, and it said something to effect of " Mom, I wouldn't be the man that I am today without your constant love and care, thank you so much for making me who I am, I will never forget all that you have done for me."

At that age, gifts and pictures dont mean ****, but a simple thanks should make their hearts melt.
