I am looking for a short coated black and tan german shepherd puppy bred for intelligence and calm temperament max 105 pounds. The German lines are too hyper and demanding. The American Show lines are cow hocked and dingy with weak rear ends. Isn't there a middle ground? What happened to Rin Tin Tin? I am frustrated. Can anyone help? Thank you

It's hard to find a German shepherd that actually makes a good family pet. I acquired my GSD from the local animal shelter. There is no doubt she is purebred, and she's got German lines, but she is pretty mellow. If you do lots of research you can find a breeder that breeds for temperment first, and looks second. There is also a really good GSD group on Yahoo Groups that might know of a good breeder. You also might try contacting GSD rescues or looking on petfinder.com. They sometimes have purebred puppies and have been temperament evaluated before adoption.
Hope this helps!

go to www.ask.com and type in where you are from and the breed of the dog, they should link you to a bunch of good pages. I have a German Shepherd and she is the sweetest thing, and a great guard dog, also she is excellent with children.

Google the AKC. they ought to have a catalogue of accepted breeders on there. Please choose for the working line and not the showline as maximum coach breeders breed GSDs with sloping backs. This motives them an excellent sort of joint problems later on and that they might advance hip dysplasia and their hips ought to even fall down. choose for a GSD with a solid solid sq. back!

look for shiloh shepherds they strive in keeping the original breeding of the german shepherd.
I know a few people whom own only shiloh's and they are great specimens of the old breeding:):)
