The definition of "perfect pitch" is when the accordion lands in the MIDDLE of the dumpster................
Lacking detail to go on, the problem may be as simple as you may not be able to hear yourself. If you are in a live performance situation with accompaniment by electric guitars, brass section, etc., with a poor monitor system or one that is being operated incorrectly, this may be part of the problem.
If one plugs one ear with a finger (not good stage presence but doable when exercising, practicing or rehearsing) it is much easier to distinguish the pitch you are trying for.
But, as any vocal teacher will tell you, until you have developed your sense of pitch, you must listen very closely to the note being sung. I mean really concentrate. In time, as your skill develops, then you will be able to concentrate less and enjoy more.
Don't give up, but don't beat yourself up. Good luck.

Well, as a singer you do not always have to have vibrato although it does help. Start with middle C on the piano to get your vocal range. Go up the scale and down first. Once you get your vocal range, get a tape recorder. While you go up and down the scale record your voice. This will help you know what key you are going off. Sometimes if you do not have enough breath support going through or to much you sound flat or sharp. Listen with your ears. First listen to the note that is playing. Then sing that note back. After that note play that note back. Then go up and down a scale. How do you know if you have good breath support. Do your shoulders rise when you take a breath. Do you sound airy. Vocal lessons work very well as they will help you with this breath support and pitch etc.

Ear training, play the notes in the piano and try to sing exactly the same note you are playing, do this in the middle register of your voice . Record your practice and listen. Other way is to take some music lessons, that will help you to develop your ear, finally I would highly recommend you to take some voice lessons. Voice lessons will help you to develop a safety technique, your ear and other music stuff to make you a better singer.
Good luck

The best way to sing on pitch is to practice and really listen.
When I have to sing a capella. I usually think of a song that starts with the same note and hit it. I think I have perfect pitch though.
The more you listen to the piano, rather than your own voice, the more likely you are to be on pitch.

Project your sound from between your eyes, rather than from your nose, throat or chest.
Listen to yourself carefully, listen to your piano, listen to the song, listen to everything.
Have your ears irrigated by your family doctor (seriously!) - earwax buildup can affect your pitch more than you might think.
Work really hard on breath control. Think slightly above your pitch. More than anything else, practice makes perfect.

Well, its all about vocal exercises. This is the first time Ive tried explaining this so bare with me!
Her are some vocal excersizes:
1. Say "le" and "la" out loud, with the vowels pronounced in the Italian manner (say "le" rather than "lay-ee" and "la" rather than "la-uh").
2. Join the vowels "a" and "e" together with the "l" in an arc of sound, flicking your tongue briskly to make the "l" sound as short as possible.
3. Practice this exercise for a few minutes.
4. Say the Italian vowel sounds a, e, i, o, u, prefixed by the lip consonant "m".
5. Pronounce these sounds in the following fashion: "ma" as the "a" in father; "me" as the "a" in gate; "mi" as in machine; "mo" as the "o" in more; "mu" as the "oo" in school.
6. To produce the right "m" sound, spring your lips apart to allow the vowel sound to flow and be projected.
7. Keep the flow of your breath constant throughout the exercise.
Its really all about practice. Press a key on the piano, and then sing that note longer. Concentrate on your pitch.
Be sure to sing through ur diapragm, for thats a main key to singing in pitch.
Hope it was helpful!
