He did not "become" Son of God. He existed since the beginning of time with the Father. He was begotten of the Father before all worlds. He was begotten not made, being of the same substance as the Father. He came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary and became man.
So He never "became" the Son of God. He always was and is the Son of God.

Jesus was the first born of all creation (Col1:15)and through him all other things were created.
JJehovah created Jesus and as a result Jesus was Gods only begotten son.He had a prehuman existence and came to earth to do His Fathers will which included sacrificing his perfect human life to buy back what Adam(also a perfect human) had lost for all mankind, and that was the gift of everlasting life.
Jesus is now back in Heaven, ruling as King of God's heavenly Kingdom.Very soon now, Jesus will lead the angels in battle at Jehovah's great and fear inspiring war of Armageddon. And once again obedient mankind will be able to live in peace and harmony for eternity.(Ps37:9-11,29)

In heaven He is known as the Prince of Peace..He is a Priest forever and, never had any geneology.. The same applies to the KIng of Peace. Thus the title of the Son Of God..Selected to endure mortality for the purpose He was sent here to accomplish..
For those who think differently.. need to read the Bible more closely.. He states that he will sit at the right hand of God.. on His throne.

He is the Son of God and did not "become" God. John 1:1
"In the beginning was the word (Jesus) and the word was with God, and the word was God."

God is One. There is no Trinity. Jesus is a prophet of God, and like all his fellow prophets, he is a human being. We love him, and believe in him, and affirm all of his miracles, bestowed upon him as a favour from his Lord. He called for the worship of God alone and for righteousness - as every prophet of God has done. However, his pure monotheistic message was gradually changed by 'Christians' into a polytheistic one, by transforming Jesus(the servant of God, into a mythological God-incarnate figure to be worshipped alongside God All-Mighty.

The son was eternally begotten of the Father (begotten of the same godly and eternal "stuff" as his father).
From the Nicene creed:
God from God. Light from Light. True God from true God. Begotten, not made. One in being with the Father. Through him all things were made.
