It's a cross between Wicked and A Chorus Line.
Wicked: It's mind blowing. The music is very up-to-date, and the harmonies are so unique and amazing. I've never read the book, but it's interesting to see the underlying story behind the Wizard of Oz. Once again, it's the music that really grabs me. You really have to have a really strong cast to pull off the leads.
A Chorus Line: Basically describes the career that I'm persuing myself: It's a show that all dancers can relate to. You go to audition and there are typical dancers you'd see that are all represented by the characters in A Chorus Line, like, the ones who really are only good in one style of dance, ones who are really shy but amazing, others who stand right in front and are not so good, others who are obsessed with whether or not their leotard fits right, and the one fact that everyone is desperate for this job. A Chorus Line is really 80s, but I love the concept and how well I can relate to it.

There are so many, it's hard to pick. Cabaret is a front-runner because Liza Minella is excellent, the film is extremely well done and almost all the songs occur naturally. Also the songs fit perfectly in the context of the action and further the plot. Right up there is A Star is Born with Liza's mother, Judy Garland. It is just great and the number The Man That Got Away is one of the best and most dramatic songs in film history, imho.
Fiddler on the Roof has beautiful music and deep emotions.
There are too many others to go into them all, but a few recent ones are Chicago, Ray and Beyond the Sea.

Rent. It revolutionized modern musicals and brought up so many important things that were being ignored (and still are). The lyrics are genius. "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" and "Will I?" break your heart. "I Should Tell You" and "I'll Cover You" are such beautiful love songs, "Christmas Bells" is one of those incredible numbers that has a million things going on but pieces everything together. "Goodbye Love" and "Halloween" are such revealing pieces, "Today 4 U" and "Santa Fe" just warm your heart. "One Song Glory" is just... incredible. And "La Vie Boheme" gets across so much in just a few minutes, and the lyrics are powerful:
"The opposite of war isn't peace, it's creation."
"To people living with, living with, not dying from disease. Let he among us without sin be the first to condemn."
So yeah, Rent's my favorite musical.

Little Shop of Horrors. The movie version stars Rick Moranis, and features John Candy and Steve Martin. It's funny and I love the music. My favorite songs are "Down-Town (Skid Row)" and "Suddenly Seymour (is standing beside you)", it's also a great love story. Other songs like "Feed Me" had me rolling in my seat. Check it out, it'll make you feel as good as Singing in the Rain!
