When I called her to come in today my 7-month old golden retriever tripped on the bottom step. She stopped and looked around. Eventually she came in.

She was just confused. Looking around was her way of trying to figure out what it was that hit her.

Since all their experiences are new (or seem new to them) your pup was probably a bit confused and trying to figure out what happened!

Embarrassment is only if we have the concept of judgment, and since dogs don't operate under the same ethics we do, she probably wasn't.

But if she does it again, then jumps up and yells "Ta-da!" you'll need to get her a TV show ;])

I belive animals do feel emotion, probably very embarassed. Think about a guy you dated in the same situation. Did he look around to see if anybody noticed?

I'm sure she was confused, she probably didn't see the step. She was looking around to see what she tripped on.

My dogs do that too when they trip or fall. It sure seems like they get embarrassed. One of my guys runs to my wife for comfort, like a child running to his/her mommy. It has nothing to do with ego, Dogs have feels too.

That's hard to say. Maybe she thought somebody tripped her and she was looking around to see who it was. (-:

SHE LOST HER PRIDE FOR A MOMENT, AND YES THEY HAVE THESE EMOTIONS! SOME HOLD GRUDGES, SOME ARE SENSITIVE, ETC. IT IS GOOD TO KNOW SHE IS A LITTLE SENSITIVE, SHE WILL BE GREAT WITH THE KIDS!

Maybe that was just her way of saying
" I Meant To Do That "

How can a dog get embarrassed? They defecate, reproduce and lick their privates in public.
