I would think to cover it in what it is, maybe mix up the cream cheese frosting in a mixer, or by hand if you don't have one (I don't have one, and I manage :P) Add some lemon zest, if you have a microplane, no I don't have one either... anyway cut two lemons, each into sixths, and juice 8 of each lemon into the cream cheese. Cover the cake in the cream cheese lemon frosting, and as a cool little garnish push the remaining 4 lemons down into the frosting. A lemon cake sounds good, can you get me a recipe? If I have the right ingredients my family would love it.

Cream cheese is actually very common on a lemon cake. Some other options would be vanilla frosting, lemon frosting (either a can premade, or just buy some vanilla frosting and add some lemon extract), or just a light glaze over the top. You could make a glaze with just powdered sugar and water.

Cream cheese frosting is a good choice but you could also do lemon frosting, or even vanilla. If your choice if white frosting though, go with the cream cheese, that's yummy. It's also tasty on strawberry cake. :)
Oh...and Nellie is right. I hadn't thought about raspberry frosting. That goes very well with lemon cake!

Whatever you like......cream cheese will work.
You can even add a teaspoon of lemon extract to the frosting.
CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:
1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon milk
Cream all ingredients together until spreading consistency.

Cream cheese frosting is a lot lighter than a butter cream so it can bypass completely with any such summery style alongside with lemon. try including the zest of one million lemon to the frosting to really deliver out the citrus tang.

One of the tiers on my wedding cake was lemon with cream cheese frosting. It was excellent! Go for it!
