Ticks are usually small, insect-like creatures that live in wooded areas or fields. They attach to humans and/or pets as you brush by bushes, plants, and grass. Once they are on you, they dig in often moving to a warm, moist location like the armpits, groin, and hair. Once they attach firmly to your skin, they begin to draw blood. Some ticks are almost impossible to see. While most do not carry diseases, some can cause Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Colorado tick fever, and tularemia. You need to watch for muscle or joint aches, stiff neck, headache, weakness, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and other flu-like symptoms. Also watch for a red spot or rash starting at the location of the bite. The tick itself can cause tick paralysis. Symptoms include numbness, tingling, weakness, incoordination, and spreading paralysis.

A tick bite tends to just look liek a very small spot. If you were bit by a dog tick (the larger kind) then theres no reason for concern. If you've found a deer tick attached to you, it's important to remove it properly and watch the area for a rash. It's a good idea to circle the spot with a pen to watch if the redness increases in size. If a rash appears or you feel ill after being bit by a deer tick it's important to see a doctor right away becasue thats a sign of lyme disease.

It is possible for them to be sore especially if they are infected. You might want to let your dr. look at the area.
