I have always had a gas stove where I can tell how big a flame I'm cooking with. But this is the first time I've had an electric stove--how long should I leave the ground beef in the spaghetti sauce before it's cooked? How can I tell if it's cooked? I don't want to get myself sick!

I left the beef inside the sauce for 1.5 hours on medium high heat. The germs should be dead, right?

Never start spaghetti sauce with raw ground beef. Always brown and crumble the ground beef up first, cooking until there is no pink left in the meat. Then add the other ingredients.

I agree with the other posters but would add one important thing: drain off the fat from the ground beef. depending on the grade of meat you buy, it can be substantial. A little oil adds flavor, a lot makes the spagetti slide off the plate (smile)

cook the meat till it turns brown...on medium then add the sauce..... ecoli lives on the
outside layer of beef...... since your using ground beef just make sure the meat turns brown, it will still cook more after adding the sauce. also turn the heat to low after adding the sauce.....stir frequently

You should check it with a meat thermometer. It should be at least 185 degrees.
