In U.S. dog is a personal property. If Vet is negligent and you have the prove , your vet is responsible for price of your dog. No emotional damage, pain and etc.
Unless you have very expensive dog, it may not worth to hire a lawyer financially. If you want justice done, You can file a complain to "Alabama State board of Veterinary medical examiners"

I don't know about lawyers in Alabama .I do know that its up to the pet owner to take all pre blood screening and testing before you have stuff done to your pet.Than if you didn't sign anything releasing the doctor of liability after that and its something really bad that happened than I would pursue a case against the vet. If I felt that the vet did wrong to my animal and I really felt that deep down and if I did all the things I was suppose to do than I would go after the vet at that point. It would still be hard but it would make me feel better. That's a really tuff question to because it would depend on what the vet did.We all know that theres a risk with surgery the vet knows and the client that's a risk we all except but theres always special situations too..

Need more info. You say the vet was negligible. The vet will say she did all she could. Negligence is hard to prove unless you have pictures or witnesses. If you want to pursue it, you don't need an animal attorney - you need a human attorney. You should call around to other vets and ask for opinions and referrals.

I cannot imagine that a vet would actually be negligent towards an animal in their care. You might have to explain the situation better for us to give more specific answers. I would call around to attorney offices and ask them; I'm sure someone would be willing to help out with it.

There are lawyers all over. You call around and find one that will take these type cases. There are not many that will. There is no money in it. ANd they are very hard to prove. Get a copy of you records from the vet ASAP, or they may VANISH when a lawyer inquires about them!!!!!!! Unless you have rock solid proof that the vet was at fault, you will pay a lawyer a lot and probably get nothing!!

I don't understand why everyone expects Vet and Doctors to never ever make a mistake. EVERYONE makes a mistake now and then, why are they not suppose to? I think most are trying to do a good job but people are very sue happy. That is why we have such high medical costs, and why Vet costs are on the rise.

The value of damages for an animal lost for any reason in a case that can be shown in court to be the responsibility of another is replacement cost of the animal.

Go to your vet now and get a copy of the records. You cannot have the originals, but if you get a copy asap you will be able to prove if they changed something. Next call a lawyer.

My heart aches for the people who loved this animal. Anger and blame are natural reactions, but in this particular case, probably not very productive. I hope you can soon let go of the blame which will only make the grieving process more intense and cause it to last longer. Much love to you.

proof in negligence is really hard to prove, especially on animals. Unless you are ready to pay for an autopsy, good luck.
