Promise him you are responible and will take care of it and take responsiblity if it rips anything up and will work for the damages and clean up after it.

Then I guess you won't get one until your dad is ready since he's the one who will be paying the bills for a puppy. Maybe your parents can't afford a puppy right now.
Do your homework, research how to take of a puppy, when the puppy needs to get vaccines, how to train a puppy, etc.
Once you have all that information, talk to your parents and ask why they don't want a pet.
If you get an allowance, offer to give part of your allowance back to help the cost of the puppy.
Let your parents know you have put a lot of research in to getting a puppy and you are well aware of the time and money it will take.
But this is only an idea, doesn't mean it will change your dad's mind.

You're smart and probably already know the answer, but I'll give you some suggestions anyway.

1). Volunteer to clean out kennels at the pound, ASPCA, or other animal rescue organization.

2). Volunteer to walk, feed, or dog-sit friends or neighbors pets.

3). Volunteer to help an animal rescue group to find homes for stray dogs.

4). Go to the library and get several books on pet care, specifically dogs. Write a small report on what you have learned. Post it on your bedroom door.

If you do any of the above for more than a month, this will show them that you are ready for the responsibility. It will also show you the work involved with a pet.

If you do get a dog, TAKE IT TO OBEDIENCE CLASS! Community centers sometimes offer them, or try Pet-Co or PetSmart.

In a situation like this, the parents are the ones to make the decision. If he doesn't want a dog (puppies grow up to be dogs, you know!), there may be many reasons for this that he has not told you.

However, if you can demonstrate to your parents how responsible you are (and keep it up for a while, too), that might go a long way to softening them up!

Do you have the yard for one? Are you old enough to take the responsibility of a puppy? A new puppy can be alot of work.

If your parental unit does not want a dog in the house then I am afraid you are out of luck. Not sure how old you are but it doesn't really matter because when you go on a vacation and can't take the dog with you, are you going to pay to board the dog? Are you going to pick the poop up out of the yard? Are you going to pay any of the vet bills for shots and check-ups? It's always the kids who want the animal and the parents who end up paying for it and taking care of it. Grow up and then you can have your very own dog

u can clean up around the house. help him with anyhting that he might need. be really nice and don't talk back cuz if u do then it can ruin your chances of ever getting 1. well if things don't work out maybe try something easier like a cat or even a fish and you can work your way up 2 a cute lil puppy. wekll hope everything works out :-)

Why doesn't your dad want one? is it money or allergies If it is money tell him you will do chores around the house and clean up after the dog. if he wants you can even do work for neighbros shovel snow, mow the lawn, rake leaves. just show them you are responsible and will take care of the dog. good luck i hope you get a puppy soon

By listening to what they say. If he does not want the puppy, do not get one!!!! He may know that there is not enough time for the family to take care of one, or that you can't really afford one. Ask him for specific reasons why he does not want one. After all, he would probably be the one taking financial care of it.

I think he thinks that you won't be responsible for the accidents the puppy makes and he thinks the puppy might tear up furniture. Do chores, things that are responsibility!
